I read an article on this site not long ago (can't remember where now) that I thought gave some good advice. Buy a couple of high quality pieces. Really nice sofa and chair for example in a neutral color. Then accessorize and add color with less expensive pillows and smaller more original pieces from flea markets as others have suggested or even second hand stores. If you spend some time browsing photos on Houzz and start an idea book you will soon see the similarities in what you like or don't like. Even colors you gravitate towards. So you could get some nice pieces and ideas from Ethan Allen but don't buy everything from them. Fill in with less expensive and unique pieces. It will keep the room from looking like a showroom. Also once you pick fabrics or pillows you like paint stores (at least my local SW) is great about helping pick out paint colors. I think you could very well pull a room together based on an inspiration photo and help from furniture and paint stores. I am no whiz at decorating but I have learned a lot from reading these forums. The ceiling light must be on a dimmer. Much better lighting in the bedroom is a table lamp or wall sconce in each corner. Red is a strong color and you have a medium sized room. When thinking about interior design, I am a strong believer in respecting the exterior of the home as well as the other rooms in the home. Let's get some unity, here! Take your cue from those areas. Think about the colors, textures, and styles in the other rooms. Bring some of those elements in this room. What is your inspiration? A piece of fabric or wall decor that you love? A table accessory, or sculpture? If you don't have anything to start from, visit your local art gallery. Begin with that and keep us informed as you go through this process!

How wonderful to have someone on this forum that knows the house. What is the dining area like? We ended up switching the dining area for the living room area and that worked really well. At least for the folks who ended up buying our house. But we lived with it like the folks have it in the pictures, for years. It was so cramped. I am certain that shirlpp can guide you through this because she knows the house. I don't know the measurements or what it is like in the dining area but I put this 3D rendition together on a whim knowing that it may not work. But hey why not throw the idea out there? In this you will find a small corner sectional, a padded ottoman with storage, a TV media surround with storage, 2 small chairs for extra seating for guests.
