I emailed Bosch because I couldn't get through on the phone. Always on hold for an hour or more and eventually had to give up. This was the response I received: Thank you for taking the time to contact us. In regard to your inquiry, we are sorry to hear about the trouble with your dishwasher. We can send you a lower rack wheel replacement kit, which includes wider wheels that have been redesigned to improve the stability of the lower rack. Please provide your address and an order will be created to send you the wheels, which should resolve the issue you are experiencing with the lower rack falling off the track. Here's the best pictures I've seen of the aforementioned Bosch split cutlery racks: You can see how they're designed to slide over the tines so they can be placed anywhere - a great design. Not shown is that the two parts of the basket can also be attached back-to-back rather than side-to-side to create a nearly square, double-width but half-length basket as well, with the two tall sides of the baskets and handles joined together to make one thicker handle used to lift both baskets together. This is a great example of how a seemingly mundane item like a dishwasher cutlery basket can be brilliantly rather than indifferently designed. I also found a few pics of the aforementioned Maytag/Jenn-Air 3-rack interior, with ample height on all three racks. The first shows the center rack raised so that all 3 racks have substantial height for larger items. The lower picture has the center rack lower, relegating the lower rack to mostly utensils and flatter cookware, but notice how large-diameter plates fit on both of the racks above it simultaneously, with the entirety of the racks configured to fit either plates or glasses/cups. These machines had four revolving washarms, and still managed to fit three roomy racks into them. These unfortunately aren't made anymore.

I have a lower cost Bosch DW (white, tall tub, external controls) about a year old. It replaced a terrible Amana that sounded like a jet engine when it ran. I got really tired of not being able to hear the TV in the next room! The pros: pretty quiet, seems to clean well. Dries okay. Love how simple the controls are. Really like the stainless interior. Doesn't seem to need a food disposal after all (I was skeptical). Cons: SMELLS BAD. I rinse my dishes really well anyway before loading but there's something about the interior (maybe the stainless steel?) that traps odors big time. It smells like something is dead in there and I'll have to run a load that's not even full just to eliminate the stink (the "rinse" cycle doesn't help all that much). I've never had that happen in any dishwasher before. It happens fairly consistently in this Bosch. Now I rinse everything about 4 times before putting it in b/c I'm paranoid! I have check the food grate thing at the bottom of the DW all the time, but that's never been the source of the smell... FWIW, I went to a neighbor's house yesterday to see her kitchen and she has the stainless version of my Bosch DW. She doesn't like hers because she says it smells AFTER the clean cycle has run (never happened to me) and that the dishes don't dry at all so they have to crack the door for awhile before unloading. That hasn't happened to me either. One more con - a design flaw. Bosch made the grate openings on the bottom rack so large that you can't put smaller items (like cups or small bowls) on the bottom. Too bad - because you can put plastic anywhere since there's no heating element. Poor design, IMO. I deal with a lot of small cups and sippy cups with three small kids so that has been annoying for me. Overall, it works as it should and even though I have gripes, I'm not replacing it in the new kitchen since it's so new...

Funny, I just got my new Bosch installed last weekend - to replace the Kitchenaid that I couldn't stand!! It is the Integra 800 (SHX98M09UC). I can't believe how excited I am about something so silly! The Kitchenaid was louder and just felt clunky to me. It was also only about 5 years old and the racks are rusting. Plus the door made this horrible squeaking on open and close. Perhaps I just got a lemon but I've missed my Bosch until now. I do admit that the interior of the Bosch looks smaller, but there are only 2 of us. And one of my requirements was no heating coils. I am back to putting whatever I want whereever I want. I also found that the KA was not any better at drying plastics. . . To each his or her own I guess.
