Poor Man's Greenhouse...
Comments (11)frangipaniaz- of course it's possible. how much were you looking to spend? the #1 issue i must stress is use two layers of plastic with an air gap separating them. just this alone will greatly increase your heat retention. you'll want a fan circulating air. some people would say 24/7. there is a chance that you'll get spider mites even with contant air circulation. i kept them in check by spraying the leaves with a horticulture oil. plumeria go dormant in hawai'i during winter when lows dip near 60 degrees at night. just keep that in mind when heating. the tips went dormant on most of mine, but most of them managed to keep their leaves. of course i allowed my gh to dip in the 40s at night. and there were a couple of nights of 35! although challenging, your endevours will bring about much delight during cold winter days when you are in your toasty gh admiring your plumies and whatever plants you decide to stick in there. GOOD LUCK... detrick...See MorePoor Man's T. dyeriana for Bihai
Comments (9)Mine outside in the drive (where those are), only get wet when I wash the truck. But yes, air, air, air circulation is the ticket. Bob, I just schmooze around with Photoshop, reduce the images sizes, enlarge the canvas size, and presto! The below were all reduced to 4"w x 3"t and the canvas enlarged to 12"w x 6"t. Don't freak, the upper left photo is an example of color saturation. The "thing" in the middle is my guard dog Rufie. (on the prowl!)...See MoreSchizanthus, Butterfly Flower, Poor Man's Orchid
Comments (9)Nancy, Yes you can take petunia cuttings. I read somewhere many years ago that a couple of gardeners planted many white petunias every year. On this one particular year for some reason they lost a lot of their seedlings and were unable to find more seed of the same white variety. He and his wife were about to give up when he came up with the idea of taking cuttings. It saved the garden for them that year and they did cuttings every year after that. After I read that, I started taking cuttings from the spreading petunias. I have not taken cuttings from the regular petunias because I usually have so many, I toss many seedlings after I transplant the ones I want to keep. The white petunia story above was regular white petunias...so I am sure it will work. Just be prepared for not having every cutting take...chances are some will fail, but if you take a few extra cuttings you will have lots. BTW I had a look at Butchard's website and the only petunias they have listed are Petuna Solanaceae mix colors, multiflora petunia. They get 12 - 15 inches tall. I am guessing that is also what was in your mix. The schizanthus they had listed was Angel wings....this is one that I have also grown. Schizanthus does last a long time for me...It pretty much makes it into mid or maybe end of Aug...if it doesn't get hit with frost. It won't take frost. Remember I don't get hot weather here like you do there....I also don't get any humidity. They are a very pretty flower and worth growing....plant your baskets extra full so if they fade early for you, other plants will spill over and fill the space. Take notes so you can remember what worked for you and what doesn't....for next year when you do this all again. lol Sierra...See MorePlease help me change my air conditioning filter
Comments (4)Open the grill by releasing the two latches (pull them down, they're attached to the edge of the grill and don't come off). The grill is hinged at the other end and should there hang open. If you want to remove it completely to clean and/or paint it, it should unhook at the hinges. The filter simply fits up inside the frame. Swing the grill up/closed and reset the latches. If there's no filter, then whoever was there previous to you either ran the system without a filter, or removed it before they left. If run for a period of time without a filter, the evaporator (cooling) coil up in the blower unit may be clogged. In some oddball cases there may be a(nother) filter up inside the blower unit ... which if so, that may explain why (if) there's no filter at the grill. But the point of having the filter at the grill is for ease of access to change it without going into the blower unit....See Moregrainlady_ks
