AC replacement ducting question

Hi all,

We recently added an addition on our house, including new ducting. The old AC unit was initially working very well after being recharged, but it has since conked out. We are in the process of evaluating bids to replace it, and one person who came by mentioned that the duct installed in our bedroom is not in the ideal location, because the register is directly above our bed. In addition, it is on the wall parallel to the bedroom door rather than across from the door. That room has tended to be much warmer than the rest of the house when we close the door at night, and he mentioned that we may experience improved air exchange if we relocate the vent to the other side of the room on the wall across from the door. Since we are also considering re-doing the roof before putting the new AC unit up there, I am thinking it would be better to do this now than later, but I am not sure if it is worth the extra expense. Any advice on whether moving the vent would significantly improve the air circulation in the house? This would require running an exterior duct on the roof as the roof on the extension (which includes our bedroom) does not need to be replaced.

Thanks so much!
