Lemons are among the easiest citrus to grow from cuttings. Although Meyer lemon is not 100% lemon, it too should be fairly easy from cuttings provided you start out with healthy hydrated cuttings (yours look dehydrated). Make sure to remove all but last two or three leaves to slow down dessication of the cutting. You could even cut the remaining leaves in half to reduce transpiration. Use about 6" cuttings and apply rooting hormone. Best time to start cuttings is early summer. Insert cuttings into about 3" of perlite/potting soil mixture in a large clear plastic storage container. Keep the environment very humid and warm. I place my box under the edge of a large shrub where it gets just a bit of sun. Temp inside box should not exceed much over 95 degrees. Or, just buy an Improved Meyer Lemon mail order! A lot less work!

Earthworm, what I'd do is dig up citrus..clean roots/soil thorougly to rid pests, etc. Then pot in clean container using a well-draining soil..Nothing heavy. Water until water seeps out of drainage holes. What size container do you have? You don't want to use one too large or small. Depending on the roots, perhaps a 10" would suffice..Toni

I have far less experience than the majority of folks here growing lemons, but I do have a meyer in gritty mix, so I'll add my $0.02. I think the initial decline of the plant was due to under watering and the most recent leaf curling is also a symptom of under watering. I've found it darn near impossible to overwater my Meyer lemon when it's planted in gritty mix. It sits under a 150 watt HPS lamp during the winter and I water it every 4 days until I see water in the saucer. Since it's so heavy and I don't care to move it, I even let the water sit in the tray. The gritty mix is very forgiving for people who have a heavy hand on the watering can.

Go check out the bonsai forum, there are many hints and tips there regarding how to thicken trunk and increase ramification (branching habit)...it seems to me that the 2 subjects, topiary and bonsai are closely related and many techniques employed in bonsai culture can be successfully applied to topiary.
