How do you create mudroom cubby plans on the computer?
Comments (4)that's one of my original drawings. and it was very (non)professionally produced by using quark xpress. why would i use a desktop publishing app to design cabinets, you ask? because i worked in publishing for sixteen years and i feel most comfortable working in that program. do you like the "hooks" i have positioned in the cubbies? yeah, those are capital Js! so, the quick answer is do the best you can with what you've got! and somehow, it works. Comments (14)I have four kids with a small mudroom. Dh built me a locker system that looks very similar to beagles picture, except mine are white and don't have beadboard. I have a window to the right of ours, so we had to wrap ours around the corner just like beagle. We only have one shelf/cubby above instead of two. Dh and I don't have cubbies, but if we had room, I'd consider it - dh brings a backpack to work that holds his laptop. He always leaves it in the kitchen but wish he had a place to store it! I don't really need one but I suppose I'd use it if I had one. Dh and I keep our coats in the front entry closet. I actually prefer having the dividers b/c it keeps the kids' things contained in their own space so they don't have to look through or sort through their siblings things to find their own. They each have a basket in the cubby on the top of their "locker" that holds gloves, hats and extraneous items. They keep coats/sweatshirts on hooks in the locker, then each has a large basket underneath the bench area (also divided below) that contains all of their shoes. With four kids, multiple shoes, flip flops, cleats, boots, etc, I prefer that they each have their own spot for shoes. As for sizing, our cubbies are 14" wide. Backpacks fit easily, but if I had more space I'd probably have added an inch or two in width. Each cubby has two hooks. I got all the baskets at IKEA - small ones for up top and larger ones for underneath. I love having the mudroom but due to space constraints it's not as big as I would have liked! I guess I'm just happy to have a space to contain all the clutter and yes, mine is cluttered. Try as I might to keep it neat, it's not so easy with four kids! That's why I'm not posting a picture LOL....See MoreNeed floorplan help
Comments (10)It's very difficult to find the right person/firm to realize your dream home. Moving forward, it is a much better idea to start from scratch, work with an architect that knows your top end budget, and will work closely with you throughout the design process to ensure everything meets with your approval. Anyone that gives you a flat fee and says "ok, I'll have it ready in a month" is not the person you should be working with. Finding a floor plan online sounds like a great idea, but in reality it's one of the worst things you could do. No one mass distributing floor plans online knows you, your tastes, your likes/dislikes, etc. They are designed to sell, nothing more. This is your home and you deserve to have someone on your team that takes the time to understand who you are and what you want. For example, the very first thing we do is sit down and talk with our clients for a few hours. We discuss everything from top to bottom and get a real sense of who they are. From there we discuss the hurdles that may occur based on the information given to us, and then we design accordingly, but in conjunction with our client at every stage. Choosing an architect is choosing an artist. Imagine lining up 10 different painters and asking each to paint your portrait. They may all be very skilled, but I can guarantee you that each will provide a very different end result. You need to find the artist that fits with you....See MoreMudroom cubbies 18” or 22” wide? What would you do?
Comments (1)Yeah, depends on whether you have closet elsewhere. If this just has to hold everybody's current carry -- what they're using in the current season, etc. -- then 18" seems like plenty, especially with the extra sections above and below. If this is the place everybody has to store everything -- winter coat and spring jacket, bookbag and hockey gear, or whatever -- then you are going to need as much space as possible as the kids get older....See Moresarahbr2
