Comments (3)Oh, Esther, you are wonderful!!! I bet your halo is even polished to perfection. :) Well, I hope you have a nice spot to sit outside and drink a cup of tea, and notice all the hurried passers-by casting a pleased eye toward your small treasures. I was just signing back on tonight to add experience with another grower, forgotten earlier, when I noticed your fresh post. They were mostly small jewels too. Munchkin, Oze, and X-Ray the tiniest of them, and then a bit larger None Lovelier and Peace. I ordered these from The Hosta Patch, my first experience with Tom. What a charming mental image I have of your garden in a condo space in NYC!! You go girl!!...See MoreMy first hosta swap!
Comments (5)they call hosta the friendship plant .... they multiply so quickly .... you always can have trading material ... unlike conifers that need to be grafted .... now, my GP.. is 15 years old.. and finally got to 3 divisions ... yippee ... can you see the dripping sarcasm???? i have had to dig it up nearly every year to cut off sum and substances.. and some weird edged variety ... the moral of the story.. if it starts settling out.. you have to remove them .. as they will take over the streaker.. and that is probably why jim had a spare laying around .... i went to only one national convention [not counting the 2 i was on]... in 1998 ... Indy ... solberg had the original sitting on his vending table.. all 500 of us spent time standing there dreaming .... we all offered the checkbook ... he said he would auction it off on the last day ... at that table.. i think i missed the actual bidding war ... but Gunther Stark [may he rest in peace] somehow won out.. bidding somewhere between 2700 and 3700 DOLLARS .... hence we have GUNTHER'S PRIZE ... i 'heard' he looked like he had a coronary, by the time it was all said and done .... good luck take care of your treasure ... ken...See MoreThe Hosta Bug - they've got it BAD!
Comments (10)LOL! Oh we knew how much room they would take. We just know how to pack. We really had room for one or two more. Darn that we didn't look around quick and add a couple more. :) And we should mention that we were bringing back plants for two other people too. :) And we won't get back until next year, so we had to make it worthwhile. :) I think we should all meet at Jim's next year for a hosta forum get together. I will bring the cookies! What do you think Jim? By the way, we had so much fun at Jim's and his garden's are gorgeous! I will try to put photos up in the next couple of days, but it might be a bit longer. Next week is RAGBRAI here in Iowa....See MoreJim's Hosta
Comments (7)What a coincidence....J, I just ordered Blue Betty Lou and Deane's Dream from Jim. They should arrive tomorrow or the next day. I had asked for some recommendations and they were very prompt in answering, friendly and helpful. The only problem is that they have so many wonderful hostas to choose from and can't afford to get them all, lol. Karen...See Morebriantanyaquinn
