Anyone grow Hybrid Tea Halloween? How tall? What's it like?
Comments (8)snowheather, the photos of your 'Halloween' rose are breathtaking! I am glad to hear that it does well for you on its own roots. Judging from my personal garden experience I believe planting roses in really good soil is key to make them thrive, especially the ones that are a little bit more finicky to grow. Comments (12)Thanks rosefolly - the neighborhood I live in was originally developed in the 1880s - 19teens, and then there was another building spurt in the 1920s. Many of the old gardens were treated to "benign neglect" over the years (including ours!). Our climate is also benign, and so many of the old roses have survived, sometimes to this day, without much care since they were originally planted. I was looking from my second story window yesterday at my back neighbor's back yard. I know they do practically nothing to anything back there, but it was abloom in huge old roses - a Cl Cecile Brunner which has always been there is growing on 3 different trees, and there is what I now know is a huge old Lamarque blooming its head off. Also, when I was visiting with my next door neighbor yesterday (to take pictures of the 'Garden Pary'), there was a really nice looking bright red climber coming over the fence from that yard into hers. It was very large and healthy, completely covered in bloom, and had really gorgeous flowers. It took me a while to realize that it was Dr. Huey! All of the other ones I have seen in our area are covered with mildew and miserable. It has probably been growing there for decades - perhaps it "outgrew" the mildew, or is just such an old cultivar that it is healthier? Anyway, our neighborhood's old mystery roses are proof that you do NOT have to fuss endlessly with roses to get them to be successful! Jackie...See MoreDark red Hybrid Tea in need of ID.
Comments (20)Kinda reminds me of CRIMSON BOUQUET. I had it yrs ago, but it died on me. I don't know if it has any scent. And HMF doesn't mention scent. But it sort of looks like it. I see a darker almost black edge on it, and that's a characteristic of CB. Being a Kordes rose, it would probably be readily available overseas....See MoreID this true red hybrid tea? has the odd tiny white streak
Comments (9)Well, I can't say for sure since I'm new to roses, but it looks exactly like my Ramblin' Red climber. It's new growth is that same shade of green w/ red (new canes are red) & you can see upper right petal had a white stripe like your picture shows & had one when fully opened. I don't know how/why that stripe was there & I just purchased/planted this spring so I don't know what's up with the stripe! This pic is from its first flush & I'll take a pic for you tomorrow so you can see the color of new foliage growth: Btw, I'm in zone 4b/5a & this rose is supposedly hardy to zone 3. Like I said, I can't say for sure that's what this rose is, but it's bloom & foliage color looks exactly the same as mine. Mines in full sun, so bloom color did fade after a few days to a red w/ less blue undertones, like the bloom color in your pic. Nic...See Morechris2486
