My list of Sansevieria
Comments (20)Hi guys, I guess this is a good place to report in on the sans growing. Sadly I have lost most of my hahniis this winter. I think the problems started last summer when there was way too much rain. Even though they were covered by an umbrella, water blew in and settled in the crowns. But the good news is that my larger plants look like they are in pretty good shape and should start growing when I get them outside. Stush that's a pretty impressive plant list. Way to go! I'm spending a lot of time and energy with my new puppy, Penny. Sorry, I don't know why the pic is sideways....See Moresansevieria hahnii - growing deformed leaves..
Comments (1)Just guessing, I would say maybe damage when young and trying to grow out of it. Should be alright. If you keep getting this in other new leaves, then I would suggest something else but not right now....See MoreSansevieria hahnii 'Jade Dwarf'
Comments (3)Karen Maybe incorrect watering? I am just guessing, not an expert on sans (not an expert on anything, haha). I ended up with 6 pots after dividing. They are all in exactly same mix, and watered at the same time. One is not making it - just about dead...Others look good and are growing offsets too. Maybe it had some problems from day one, I am not sure. They could use more light, but I do not have space on windowsill or under lights, so they have to wait :) I read that underwatering will cause leaves to wilt and be limp - that's what it may be in your case. I hesitate to water my 'goner' more often, since others are ok. I think I'll take mine out of the mix and see what the condition of roots is. How often do you water yours? I do about 1x/week - 10days, depending how warm or cool it is (even indoors, I get quite a bit of fluctuation in temps)....See MoreSansevieria trifasciata 'Hahnii'?
Comments (8)I am trying this hydroponics method for 'Hahnii Marginata' i 'Hahnii Cream Marginata'. Frankly, it was a desperate measure. The roots on the original plants were almost gone; I cut the fleshy part, dried it a little and put the plant into water (not whole, just touching the surface). The new roots grew out from these small extruding things on the surface of the fleshy corm. And when I saw how nicely these roots grow, then I thought about hydroponics. I remember reading that even cacti could be grown in hydroponics, so why not sansevierias? (and besides, I have grown an ismena plant in hydro for more than 20 years, no problems there!). The first plant was put into a transparent pot filled with some granules of leca (baked clay? this is material mostly used for drainage) and in the outer pot water is maintained at some 2 cm level. I am able to watch to growing roots. This transfer took place 3 weeks ago and so far so good, the plant is stiff and nicely looking. The 'Hahnii Marginata' I transferred yesterday, so keep your fingers crossed. The other two hahniis that I grow are the simplest 'Hahnii' and 'Jade', and these I have been able to cultivate in the standard way. 'Jade' actually is a strong grower and much easier than other cultivars. I shall report the progress of the hydroponics method in future....See More- 7 years ago
