Do you like fresh fruits and vegetables?
Comments (7)Jeff, I appreciate your gratitude but it is the Widemans that will make our day. Everybody loves fruit. These folks are going to tell us how to be successful in our fruit growing endeavers. I'm really looking forward to learning about it and already jotting down questions! I'm told they like necter rich bee plants and Tina Wideman loves flowers. I'm hoping we can all pitch in with plants for them so they go home with a nice bounty too. Lets feed em well and send them home with armloads of plants as they are educating us free of charge....See MorePotholders? What kind? Where do you keep them?
Comments (20)Thanks for the responses and ideas. I guess I'd better go to BB&B and check out some of the options. Those silicon pot holders and the leather/suede ones look interesting and promising. I do have mitts, but unless I'm wrestling with a turkey or something big in the oven, I usually don't like to take the time to put on mitts just to move a pot off the stove, or take a hot dish from the microwave. I guess I'm concerned about my ugly ones, because the habit is also to throw one down on the counter or table and also use the potholder as a trivet, too. While I do have proper trivets, for just the quick meals around the house, it seems like an necessary bother. I did pick up some interesting magnetic trivets at IKEA recently, which seem like a good idea. Since I have induction, they will stick to bottom of all my pans. However, they are only trivets as they are too stiff to use as a potholder. I also like the idea of having a container out that can be used to hold them. Any other ideas? Pictures? Comments (38)No pictures because my kitchen isn't finished and is pretty sad looking. Extremely functional, but sad. I'm a bit ADD and can't function with clutter. Currently, my baking center counter has my KA. Most everything gets plopped into the DW ASAP as I plop while I prep/cook but the few things I hand wash are placed on a towel to air dry or, sometimes, wiped dry to get put away quickly. On my peninsula is a pretty cake plate with glass cover. I make most of our bread and I usually do the rustic, round loaves so the cake container is a perfect place to store and display it. That's usually it on the counters although right now I have a Christmas Cactus that's blooming there as well because it looks so pretty in bloom. I do have two open shelves on which I have glass jars with the different flours, sugar, beans, peas, ancient grains, oatmeals, and such that I use regularly. They're not on the counter so they don't bother me and I like that I can see what I have as I tend to actually remember to pop some quinoa into a soup with the rice. As I'm fine-tuning this set-up, the jars are identical as well as the labels I'm creating so it doesn't look visually cluttered to me. Now, I'm kinda cheating because I almost have two kitchens. Next to my kitchen is my laundry/pantry room, which is as big as my kitchen. This is where I have my beverage snack center. One stretch of counter has my microwave, BlendTec blender, electric kettle, French press, coffee grinder and hot-air popcorn popper (my husband thinks popcorn is a major good group so this is used almost daily). These items don't bother me as I don't spend a lot of time in this room and if extra work space is needed, like when I'm prepping our daily smoothies, there is a 36" wide pull-out breadboard. Another stretch of counter holds three fruit bowls, one with a banana hanger on it. We eat a LOT of fruit and this room stays cooler than our kitchen and gets a lot less direct sun so the fruit stays fresher here longer....See MoreDO you grow lettuce, if so what kinds do you grow.
Comments (13)Graywings, Bibb lettuce is the type I see here sold in those clamshells. As long as the roots exist and have been kept moist, they can be planted and will grow more leaves. I planted the remains of our local hothouse Bibb variety about 2 weeks ago and they are almost ready to pick. My daughter allowed red leaf lettuce (greenhouse purchased) to go to seed last year and this year she has several beautiful heads. here's my lettuce surrounded by pepper plants in the grow box. We can’t have a garden here because the deer, rabbits and other critters have a field day....See MoreErrant_gw
