Yes, you are too impatient. They are growing roots, or trying to. That is why you don't see any new top growth yet. Patience is a virtue.

Maybe the heat is slowing them down? Maybe those certain roses do not like the pots for whatever reason? And of course sometimes we just have to be patient...lol

Most ownroots grow fairly quickly here (to my standards anyhow) but we get a fair amount of rain and temps are cooler than you climate...

I have 20 own root roses growing in 15 gallon pots that I planted in March. I'm seeing very little top growth with a few scattered buds here and there. All are healthy looking though so I know they are just stretching out those roots.

Last year I planted about 10 in March and by the end of the growing season they had grown to about 2.5 foot tall and filled out considerably.

Just be patient and they'll take off for you soon.

Totally normal. When my babies do that, I say "they're doing some thinking." Lol. Depending on variety, some may jump out of their pots this year, and some may sit around till next year before doing much.

I water my newly potted own-roots with fish emulsion, alternated with Tiger Bloom and Mills Easy Feed liquid. They've only been in the pots since April and two of the six are already ready to move up to a larger pot. I think our cooler than normal spring is responsible. I'm in coastal SE Virginia where it normally gets hot very quickly.

I do repot the own roots from the one gallon they arrive in, up to a two gallon, within a few days of their arrival. Then as soon as I see new growth I start feeding every 3 weeks.

Most of my roses come from Roses Unlimited and Antique Rose Emporium so they are already a good size when they arrive. Bands scare me, never tried 'em!

Thats exactly what mine do when the heat turns on to fast. They really grow well when the weather is still cool. The poor tiny bands do grow much with the heat and humidity. Some of these guys were planted a week before the heat came and usually won't do much until it cools down a bit.
