Need info on Buffet - maker Harvest of Louisville (??)
Comments (25)Stocky said, "I've forgotten more than the two of you will ever know. " Apparently so, but that's not necessarily a good thing. GHUDAK: Can you include a picture? My search is complicated by the popular furniture chain "Harvest Furniture" of California. I'm having a hard time filtering them out. BUT: Harvest of Louisville goes back at least to 1948 because Berkey & Gay declared bankruptcy in 1948 and the rights to use the name were is purchased by Harvest Furniture Co. of Louisville, Kentucky. Their offices in the 1950s were 903 W. Main (helps if you are checking city directories) I saw one city directory listing from 1955-56 for them, and they are mentioned in the early 1950s trade magazines. One government stipulation mentioned them and Ashley-Rhodes Inc, and an Arthur J Rhodes. Someone else mentioned a sticker on their chairs: Harvest Furniture Manufacturers Ashley-Rhodes Inc Louisville, Kentucky If you are really serious about it, try searching the Louisville newspapers (online archives) and city directories from 1948 and back in time....See MoreAntique silver spoon markings - any info?
Comments (19)Brenda....what is the marking on the back? and how big are the spoons...more to the point how much do they weigh. If they are sterling and tea spoon size, they are worth about $15 to $30 each depending on the desirability of the pattern. If they are serving spoon size, they may be worth as much as $60 each....again dependingon the weight. If they are plated, they may be worth $1 to $5 each...again depending on the desirability of the pattern. What is the mark on the back? and how long are they....See MoreThinking about new lamps
Comments (34)OK, at the moment these are top contenders in my mind. Yes, I was looking for color, but what I like about the last one is that it has two bulbs, which will be good for the spot between the sofa and the chair. That is such a dark corner and often DH is on the chair and I'm on the sofa, both reading, so I'd like better lighting than what we currently have in that spot. All three lamps are about the same height, 28-30". I am likely to change the shade on either of the green lamps, so ignore the shades for now. A couple of possibilities for your voting pleasure: Bronze lamp on the left, FLW lamp (1st one) on the right. (Bunny mask moved elsewhere.) FLW lamp on the left, Haeger lamp (2nd one) on the right. (The table on the right will be wider than the one on the left.) Or, would you just do two matching lamps? There is a lot going on in this room already, so maybe some symmetry wouldn't be a bad thing. href="http://s3.photobucket.com/user/sbmor/media/lampthree_zps0d8b7f15.jpg.html" target="_blank"> For the record, the sconces over our fireplace are in the link below. The metal finish of our sconces is pretty much identical to the metal table lamp above, and the glass shades are the same color as the glass lamp shade. Here is a link that might be useful: sconces...See MoreInfo needed on the coppersmith Sanford Ring!
Comments (21)One other thing that Lee Ring shared about his father, Sanford: Lee said his dad worked on (in Lee's words) "the infamous chicken gun" which fired dead chickens at jet aircraft to test their ability to withstand high-speed impact with birds in flight. There's an interesting article about it on Wikipedia, though sadly, credits for engineers are lacking. Evidently, it was tested in the U.K. first....See Morebradleyd_svh
