The secret is in the soil. If you planted it in pure sugar sand, it is going to struggle big time. I grew roses in FL. for almost 40 yrs and learned the hard way about soil and roses. You should be able to grow beautiful roses in the Bahamas. Little things make a HUGE difference.

Thank you so much for your help. It's been 3 weeks now and still no growth and the brown parts are starting to spread down the cane, less than an inch. I feel as if the sun exposure may be burning the plant so I'm going to try the brown paper bag method and see if that helps. Also the root was planted in a pot, with potting soil. The Bahamas has a lot of limestone so it's difficult to grow anything without supplementing the soil.

I am sorry to hear there is no good news. The covering works better in the beginning, and it may not help now sadly. The rose should do something soon, or it may not have made it. I am sorry.

Oh man!!! It was such a hassle to get the bare root here. I really do hope something happens. I'll stay patient and keep my fingers crossed. Thank you so much.

New plants can give blooms that are not typical, as can weather variations. I would keep watching and see what the Fall blooms bring. Very pretty.

Heat usually causes less petals. Once it's more established you'll get fuller blooms. :)

The blooms will get larger as the plant gets larger. They will also get bigger when the temperature drops down a bit (particularly when we have cooler nights). Keep growing you're doing great!
