I have some Francis Williams

Some that get more sun burn slightly, but they stay very nice.

I have heard Olive Bailey Langdon was nicer so when I saw a big pot in the 'take me home before they throw me out' section of a local nursery I picked it up for $1. It had a name label, Proven Winners, I think. Anyway it had real healthy pips coming up but I guess they didn't want to wait until it became presentable.

It looks pretty good too. In fact it looks great for the price. I would probably take it up to fantastic.

Bruce, they are bulletproof with me. The winter before last was sub zero much of the time. Just very slight crisping on those that get the most sun. OBL looks good and will get as much Sun as any of mine so I will have an informed opinion later on.

Gesila, how many years ahead of me are you with your garden, just a couple? I cannot believe it, you know so much more than I do. What you say about showing mature plants to those with young ones, I'm almost there. These days I have to move the pots further apart than before. I started in 2012, so some of mine are acting mature to me at least....my viewing mature hosta is mostly in pictures, and at Bob Seawright's display garden in Carlisle MA. I can appreciate your "serious hosta ego"...like the term a lot. Maybe you should buy the sleep tee says: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO MANY HOSTA. (I have one)

you worry too much first pic.. looks like something fell from height and pierced the leaf .. who cares ... branches in my yard ... acorns... etc ... second pic... tan tissue.. frost ... or sunburn.. typical frances williams type injury ... spring dessication or something .... never figured what the little brown spots are... dead tissue.. bug bite.. will mull that.. some inactive brain cell .. QUIT WORRYING... lol .. its a beauty .... ken

obl SHOULD BE GROWN LIKE FRANCES WILLIAMS... drat.... without the attendant problems of fw ... or lesser anyway .. with its glaucous bluish coating... hot sun is not approved ... SGlass is fragrant.. ergo.. a progeny of plantaginea ... ergo... will take a lot of sun.. and probably grow like a weed in all but the hottest sun ... well it will grow great in full sun.. but look ratty later in the year .... you are welcome... ken

I agree. FW has broader darker leaves and margins which are not white, but golden/greenish. My FW on the West side had terrible burning or dessication two years ago. I don't know what the difference is. I moved it under lilacs on the East. It loves it there. Two other FWs grow near a moist area at the E. & W. bottom of the terracing. They get a little sun. No problem with them either. My OBL resides under a mock orange shrub on the W. side without sping or heat problems. gramma jan

Great deal Jon. I have FW and love her. It is quite sunny today so I stacked some pots close by to give her a little shade. She is fine once the mulberry leads out but until then gets too much morning sun. My OBL is new so no comments on that one. Tokudama Flavocircinalis is very similar as well and it is one of my favourites.
