Sorrento Lemon leaves black spots? Sticky stuff?

Okay, so basically I know about scale and one of my big plants has it and the lemon was standing right next to it, so I don`t know if it migrated. The sticky stuff is only on two leaves and I wiped them with fresh water to get rid of that honey.

Leaves fell by the dozen, so far around 30 leaves, most fell by the base as you can see in the pictures, but some around 5 fell from the top/middle of the three.

The tree is about 5 8 tall.

What should I do? Can I use some homemade stuff? It has a couple of flowers on it, aprox 10 out of which one has opened.

Over on the Tomato Pest & Diseases forum you'll find a long post called Problem Solver 2. Just use the forum search for that form if it isn't still on the front page. It is filled with links to images of the different tomato diseases. Browse them and see if you can find a pic that matches your problems. Off hand it sounds like you have a fungus problem (the black spots) from your description but I can't be sure without seeing it or a great many more details. If that is the case then spraying with an anti-fungus spray such as Daconil (sold under several different names) will help control it. The purpleing leaves and veins are due to stress - normal for a stressed plants - and will disappear once you ID the other problem and treat it. Good luck. If it rubs off, it's most likely sooty mold. And that is a fungus, but one that colonizes the sticky stuff excreted by certain insects. On citrus, those critters are most likely aphids, mealybugs, or certain kinds of scale. So you need to take a close look at what's infesting your tree, then deal with that. If the tree is of a reasonable size, remove the black coating by cleaning the leaves manually. Otherwise, periodically hose off the tree, thus getting rid of the sticky stuff that sooty mold uses as food.

Antigua!! Small world. We have a house in Antigua with a couple of Meyers; but no variegated anything. Invariably variegated citrus are weaker and more prone to diseases than the traditional citrus. Having said that, the distorted leaves looks to be leaf miner. The sticky stuff at the axils could be eggs; have you tried wiping it off with a Q-tip and alcohol? Could also be citrus twig borer; coffee is a host for that; and there is a mountain of coffee in Antigua. If you wash off the sticky stuff and find a hole in the stem, it is twig borer; all you can do is prune below it and burn the part with the borer in it. I treat my Meyers with ISD (Imidicloprid Soil Drench) twice per year; it is a systemic that kills anything that eats, chews, or bores into leaves or stems.

That JC is not pretty. Don't want to sugar coat it. Looks like Root Rot. You have constant moisture on the roots? Funny though how the leaves are still looking good. My guess is it has further declined sine this picture.... I would treat it as it has RR. Gypsum and less water.

It had honey dew on a couple of leaves, couldn`t see any scale tho. But what are the black spots? Is that some kind of disease?

Anyone? Please, what should I do about the black spots? They also look carved into the leaf.

Adrian , which state/province are you located , where did you buy the tree ? . If there is sticky dew you must have scales as well but the leaf spots doesnt look like scale damage looks more like Citrus Canker esp 2nd photo , Are they raised bumps ? do a google search on it . Hopefully its not the case .

Romania, East Europe. It`s a 7b climate. I keep it only indoors. I bought the tree from a certified owner. From a google search I think that Citrus Canker is not the issue as the dark spots don`t have that water soaked ring around them and in the pictures it looks like it`s rotten and it has a brownish color while my leaves have a really dark color and don`t look rotten.

As for scale, yes I DO have scale but on a much bigger plant, totally different kind, forgot the name but it`s not a tree, it`s a plant that just grows quite big and does not produce anything. It was pretty close to the lemon tree and I`m scared scale might of got to it.

Could scale just leave honey dew on a couple of leaves but not infect/settle on the tree? I looked carefully with a flashlight at my lemon tree and it doesn`t seem to have any brown/yellow round shells on the bark/leaves.

Scale can be hard to see when it is small and on the bark. Try running your fingers along the bark, especially above the leaves with the honey dew, to squash any unseen scale. Sometimes the only way you can tell you have scale is when you do that and get liquid from the squashed scale on your fingers. However, I doubt very much that scale caused the dark spots.

The leaves look pretty good to me aside from the spots. Why don't you wait and see? But def check well for scale too. Didn't see any in the pics you posted.
