Variegated Lemon trouble with leaves

Hi, the leaves on my variegated lemon are curly , the little tree is not growing and there is a weird "thing" in the union of the leave with the branch. Any ideas of what the problem might be? Someone toldme that the dark rounded spots is a fungus, so I have been treating the tree with an organic anti-fungus and anti-bacterial once a week. i have cleaned every leaf with horticulural soap. And the tree is now on a covered area with non direct sun. I also changed the soil, since it had poor drainage... But did not wash the root, I legt the root ball intact. But after all of that, after 2 months still no change, no new grow, nothing.... Any ideas that could help me. I dont know my zone... I am located in Antigua Guatemala...

Antigua!! Small world. We have a house in Antigua with a couple of Meyers; but no variegated anything. Invariably variegated citrus are weaker and more prone to diseases than the traditional citrus. Having said that, the distorted leaves looks to be leaf miner. The sticky stuff at the axils could be eggs; have you tried wiping it off with a Q-tip and alcohol? Could also be citrus twig borer; coffee is a host for that; and there is a mountain of coffee in Antigua. If you wash off the sticky stuff and find a hole in the stem, it is twig borer; all you can do is prune below it and burn the part with the borer in it. I treat my Meyers with ISD (Imidicloprid Soil Drench) twice per year; it is a systemic that kills anything that eats, chews, or bores into leaves or stems.

Northbay, So far, they have all recovered. That is balanced by managing to make some plants look bad that were perfectly fine when I bought them. I haven't killed one yet but a few came close. This Cocktail Grapefruit was bought at Armstrong for $7. I was almost as sad as your Lemonade when you bought it. I think it had 5-6 leaves on it. You can see a couple leaves I managed to burn with too strong foliar fertilizer. It is a learning experience. The green reflection in the pool is the original Valencia that was almost dead from ivy covering it. After 12 years of recovery, it is finally making good oranges. Isn't this fun? So different from administering business computer systems. At least the plants don't work at destroying themselves like my customers do with their computer systems.

The VPL is a relatively weak cultivar, grown mostly as a novelty tree. Lemons in particular... don't know about the rest of citrus... do not like to grow roots into cool soil; maybe the air temp is too high in a South facing window relative to the soil temp. Yes, even the VPL will recover; citrus in general are very resilient; start treating them right and they will come back to life. Here's a foto of a VPL inground in California.

Oh in the the first picture you can compare with the original post photo. see how the wood has turned dark brown around the lesion. I know you guys are bust me up for this one ;) I scraped off the brown bark around the lesion and ran my lighter over it a few times to dry it up a bit. Sometimes I read things on the Internet and act compulsively. Like repotting to the gritty mix. Anyways I'm down to 18 leaves left on my pink lemon... And I had such high hopes Help Mike

Thanks for responding Vlad and Susanne. Yes Vlad, both were in their boxes exactly same number of days- seven. Susanne, you may be right about possibly being grown under different conditions. This morning I'm noticing that the leaves close to the top of the "avocado" tree are feeling a little more limp than the ones on the bottom. Both plants were positioned in their pots as though the root ball had just been thrown on a half full pot of soil. So they were very dried out on arrival. Like you say, I'll just watch and see but have the sense that the color is the way they'll be. Feel sorry for the "avocado" one- it's not real attractive.

I don't see damage from leafminers. Instead, I suggest the distortions are due to the leaf variegation. In other words, normal because the white portions lack chlorophyll..
I don't know anything about the stuff at the joints.

Jean... that is the way leaf miner damage looks in Antigua; I get exactly that on my Antigua Meyers. The systemic kills them before they do much more damage than that; and the characteristic "trails" they make are usually only visible on the bottom of the leaf. Perhaps we have a different subspecies of CLM here in Guatemala.
