The great thing about the Scarecrow is that it requires a heat signature as well as movement which is why slow moving predators get zapped as well as the faster ones and wind blown grasses and waterfalls won't set it off. I did discover that the highest splash from it is light enough that small birds love to set it off. A group of them will sit in the tall Marissi Viburnum until one flies low enough to trigger the spray then they all have fun in the shower. It attracts the squirrels and chippers, too but they aren't smart enough to set it off, so they come running when they see the birds flock. They did figure out the outside reach of the spray after getting knocked head over heels a few times. I have caught myself a few times and once or twice a group of teens trying to find a shortcut to the high school, and also, a couple of landscapers were caught by the spray. Not only does it keep away the predators, it is great entertainment. The only resistant critters are the large dogs that sometimes get out of their yards. First, the lemon you have is the Improved Meyer lemon. It is not a "dwarf" tree, although its growth habit is compact and bush-like. But, more importantly, the "orange" you bought is not an orange tree. It is actually a Calamondin (Citrus x citrofortunella mitis). A Calamondin is no more like an orange than a Meyer lemon is, with the exception of having an orange-colored peel. Calamondins are also compact in their growth habit, but, they do not taste anything like a sweet orange. They are very sour, and for most folks, cannot be eaten out of hand (unless you can eat a lemon out of hand). Just so you know. Patty S.

I see one occasionally on my 1.6 acre rural property near my creek (obviously) but have never had the camera with me at the time. I did catch one on film a few years ago sitting atop my neighbour's shed. Absolutely stunning creatures! When in Florida, walking along the beach, they are so used to people, I could walk right up to it - about 5 feet away to take pics. Love these majestic birds!

Since they are swimming birds i guess they could swim, but maybe I'm wrong. A great blue heron just flew over my backyard a few weeks ago.
