Help finding rose plant - Red Corvette
Comments (13)Also be aware any resulting plant may not produce the same quality of flowers that was the bouquet. Actually it's highly unlikely it will. You'll most likely get much shorter stems, flowers that may be slightly different in color and definitely smaller blooms. Florist roses are hybridized especially for cut flowers, Many are grown in Latin or South America where there is volcanic soil using lots of pesticides and fertilizers. They're usually grown at higher altitudes where the sunlight is strongest and daylight is longer. I'm not trying to deter you. I just want you to be aware that your results may not be as satifying as you would expect. Where and how a rose is grown does make a difference. And if you live in a colder growing zone, it may be too tender to survive the winter without a lot of protection....See Moreseeking rose specialist in New Jersey
Comments (16)LOL. I was ignoring this thread because I have no knowledge re rose folks in NJ. Then I noticed the total number of responses, and had to find out what's goin' on in the Garden State rose-wise. What I found is kind of wacky. Or, to borrow a term that John McCain used yesterday on the floor of the Senate -- BIZARRO! First, we have someone who's making her very first post on this forum asking a legitimate question based, one must assume, on her own very specific needs. Then come responses attempting to convince the poster that she really doesn't want what she clearly states that she wants. Then, rose service agents in Va and NJ are recommended. The info-seeking poster, who specifically requested info on NJ-based rose experts, replies that she shall contact the out-of-state source forthwith. Then, in a rare appearence here, comes one of the few folks on the planet whom a rather august body has officially proclaimed to be a "Great Rosarian of the World". In contravention of the rules of these forums, the Great Rosarian of the World came to tout/promote/solicit customers for his business. I hope things work out well for the initial poster, & that she finds the help she's seeking -- in VA, NJ or where ever. Turned out to be a curious, interesting and entertaining thread after all....See MoreSeeking FREE wood chips or green material in Stillwater Area
Comments (2)Is there a Starbucks nearby? They will happily give away coffee grounds, by the garbage bag full! I used them liberally when I made a bed from a base of wood chips. I've gotten wood chips from the utility tree trimmers (asplundh? here). I had to catch them when they were in the neighborhood, but they were happy to do it. It's a LOT of wood chips! I've heard of people getting leaves and such by posting on Craigs List. Lisa...See MoreToo early to plant? PNW 8b Rose gal seeks help!
Comments (5)By all means go ahead and plant. They won't do much growing until we warm up significantly.......usually midMay at the earliest. I find that if I plant cannas and dahlias in black nursery pots and place in a very sunny location, the soil in the containers warms up better and faster than ground soil does, so you get better growth earlier in the season. Otherwise, you can be waiting until August or September to see any flowers. These guys love heat and we just don't get much!!...See MoreDaddy Cat
