Often birds do the seed eating and then pooping elsewhere thing, especially with multiflora seedlings. Seed + a bit of manure that gets broken down by water about the same time as the seedling matures.

First guess...it's from multiflora crossed with something interesting and the birds like the boxwood for a nest. Sometimes nearby roses are involved, but (IMO) roses in our part of the world are more often from birds who range far and wide.

I get all sorts of volunteer babies in my garden. I usually let them bloom, to see if I like them. One or two once bloomers I have left. Here is a new one which just popped up last year. This Spring it bloomed for the first time. It is growing in the middle of several Koster polyanthas - from the looks of it it is a seedling of one or more of them (it is about 6 inches high at this point):

I had one of those 2 years ago. I am still waiting for it to bloom. I'm not sure if it's a volunteer or a stray cutting that dropped off my deck and rooted (I was doing rooting on my deck).

Back in the day, Doug Seidel told me that true Noisettes take two years from seeds to bloom.

Yes, once blooming seedlings always take at least one year to have their first bloom and can take as much as 3 years depending on the plant. If you have the space and patience they're fun to do.

I think you have a multiflora hybrid. treat it well and see if it reblooms. One of my best roses is a multiflora seedling that wantonly reblooms throughout the year. This year bloom began the second week of May and it's still blooming in large clusters.

If you like that color (and it does look really good against that deep green foliage) give it a chance. Odds are the blooms won't be singlely borne as it matures but will become good sprays.

It's still multiflora. But in a garden situation, it is great rose. there is 'wild' multiflora called R. multiflora carnea that is a subtle light pink. I've seen it in scatterd woodland places (natural variability in seeds from back when the USDA encouraged the planting of multilflora for stream bank stabilization, for reclaiming mined areas, for lessening the effects of cars crossing interstate medians at high speed, and as a sustainable substitute for barbed wire.

Multiflora only becomes rampant and unmanageable when the landowners don't care. It will carry RRD the same as almost every other rose in our part of the world. But it carrys it ONLY if it's infected from another rose.
