How well do potted fruit trees purify the air?
Comments (5)because they rely on it for alot of nutrients, air plants like ferns and tilandsias are usually the best for air purification, but your link answers your question pretty good " The Areca palm tree is the very best air purifying plant according to the ratings from NASAâÂÂs research and has the 8th highest removal rate for Formaldehyde according to Dr WolvertonâÂÂs data. This house plant was referred to as âÂÂthe most effective air humidifierâ by MetaEfficient.com. The Areca has the ability to maintain your office or home moist throughout dry periods as well as continually removing chemical toxins from your air. In the course of the winter season, itâÂÂs so effective at putting moisture back in the air that you could switch off your electric humidifiers! 2. Interior Plants: Their Influence on Airborne Microbes inside Energy-efficient Buildings In another study made in 1996, a bedroom with no plants had 50% more colonies of airborne microbes than a room which contained houseplants. " ----- next time i come across a cheap areca palm i will try to grow it indoors since i had no luck with them out...See MoreWhole house air purifiers
Comments (4)Lennox talks a lot about being no ozone. It sounds pretty good. But, they don't explain how they do this. http://www.lennox.com/pdfs/brochures/Lennox%20No%20Ozone%20Solutions.pdf Aprilaire claims that the have no ozone because they have no moving parts. http://www.aprilaire.com/index.php?znfAction=ProductDetails&category=7&item=2200 Consumer reports which used to recommend Aprilaire highly. Has withdrawn this because of 'small amounts of ozone'. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/appliances/heating-cooling-and-air/air-cleaners/air-purifiers-sub/electrostatic-precipitators/closeup-electrostatic-precipitator-advice.htm I have a Aprilaire 5000 that I bought 3 1/2 years ago because it was recommended by Consumer Reports. It was very expensive at the time, but may have gone down in price. I need to evaluate my options and see if we need to change. Some questions I'm asking are: Do the UV lights that I have generate ozone? Probably yes, although I see Lennox has a no ozone UV light system. Do I really want to spend more money on another product that may turn out not to work or make things worse? Can I just turn off the Aprilaire 5000 ionizer and use the pleated media air cleaner that comes with it? Are our asthma and allergy issues due to the 'small amounts of ozone' these products generate? Comments (15)We have them in both our bedrooms. No particular issues with air quality (except for having a dog). I wouldn't think anything of it, as others have said. Ditto for a humidifier in a child's room. Only thing I would think twice about would be a dehumidifier in a basement or other prone-to-moisture space, if seller had not disclosed any moisture issues....See MoreSuggestion for air purifiers for our home
Comments (5)I'll leave brand name reccomendations to someone else but would like to help you control dust and allergens in your home. When you change ac filters,is ductwork that is exposed behind filter covered in lint similar that from laundry dryer? It shouldn't be if you are using correct filters. Can you see lint on outlet vents and ceiling around vent? There shouldn't be any if proper filters are being used. The correct filter 100% cover's intake without space where air can get around filter. The correct filter is pleated paper, not woven fiberglass. If you found lint in both places mentioned,I suggest getting correct filters in place and running blower continuously at least 12 hours out of 24. If you increase set temp while away from home, that's the best time for continuous fan. You may also run fan 24/7 until dust is under control,it will not harm anything and will cost less than $5 extra per month. Duct cleaning is never required if proper filters are used. I don't recommend duct cleaning other than in exceptional cases where filters have been neglected for years. I do highly recommend coil cleaning "IF" a competent tech say's it's necessary. Otherwise, like duct cleaning, you should never need coil cleaning if proper filters are used. You should be using HEPA bags in your vacuum cleaner unless it is water bath. When you notice furniture need's dusting once a month rather than weekly, you are doing something right....See MoreVith
