New additions to the garden
Comments (5)Opuntia santa-rita is your plant, GB. Do you think there's going to be room for something like Aloe divericata? Additionally, how about a nice towering Kalanchoe beharensis? Unless you get wet and cold (a lot of it) at the same time and can't get proper drainage, this Kalanchoe will grow well for you and is a welcome addition to any succulent garden. Plus there's the fact that, if it does rain, this plant's mature leaves are large enough to provide a green head covering that will keep your head completely dry....See MoreGreat succulents at local garden outlet
Comments (18)Those are very inexpensive for the size of the plant offered, hey were even in good shape, grab them quick, you really can't buy much of a plant for the $3 ones. The big ones are the bargains. That Agave is a knockout. So were the 'Golden Barrel' For new collectors: Reminder, change out the soil, and watch for bugs, use Liquid Ivory soap in water to spray for insects, or a Que tip dipped in alcohol for mealies, and scale. For aphids spray just with water. Don't bring infected plants to your collection, put them in quarantine away from your plants for two weeks to make sure that they are healthy. Comments (27)Thanks! I look forward to hearing more too, neighbor gave me that last summer and it's been a lot of fun, has bloomed a lot, more blooming than growing. If it wasn't for the great advice I got here, it would probably be dead by now. I thought the 'cactus' part of the name meant it wanted to be really dry most of the time, and luckily was told right away, that's exactly wrong, and to give it airy, chunky soil without sand in it. I keep snapping off pieces to share with other people, and have stuck about half a dozen pieces in the soil of the same pot. None are big/tall enough to peer over the rim yet though some have some tiny new leaves down in there. I'd still call it slow-growing but it's hard to say since I've shrunk it on purpose so often. Always open to tips for improvement!...See More4 Cute Little Guys
Comments (10)Ariel, Your red cactus is Echinocactus pectinatus rubrispinus. Be careful with this one in the winter, I've read they're more prone to rot in winter than the average Joe cactus. The small round one (in your first photo, it is the top right cactus (it's smallest of them all, globular, and rather pointy looking), that's a baby Echinocactus grusonii 'Golden Barrel Cactus' (you can type the name in and see what it'll look like a long time from now, almost looks like a different cactus entirely!)
