cucumber beetle larvae

What problem? The leaves in the center look great. The darker veining showing in the leaves is because the plants are taking up the fertilizer. I am sure due to the Neptune. I use it all the time myself. Great Stuff. Never tried the Chickity Doo Doo. Maybe some powdery mildew starting on the bottom leaves? I can't tell.

Since your pest is on a cucumber plant I hazard to guess that the pest in question is a squash bug larva, likely a second or third instar. The older larvae are greyish with darker legs. For most vines you can companion plant with marigolds, radish and nasturtiums. A mild soapy water can be sprayed with dehydration resulting. Try a row cover during the initial growth of the plants/seedlings. Mulch with straw. Timing is a factor, but trying to get a crop in after the first generation is a zone problem for some of us. Transplants under cover may be strong enough to survive later hatches. Good soil preparation enables healthy plants, a balance of nutrients and plenty of organic matter. I also find an aerated compost tea weekly interferes with pests finding a home for eggs. Good luck.

@gargwarb: That is exactly what they are. Thank you so much for helping me out. I have since been able to also identify winged aphids as well as whiteflies on this plant....I guess I got the insect motherload. I share a back porch with several other units here in the city of Chicago, and who knows if we are passing invaders to each others plants. Anyway, I read up on Spinosad, and the local nursery had that plus Espoma's Earth-tone. I went with the Earth-tone first, as I know their products are for Organic plants. Captain Jack (the brand name of the Spinosad product they had) was marked as using Spinosad as an organic solution, but didn't seem to list the other inactive ingredients, so I figured I would try Earthtone first, as it lists thrips, aphids, and whiteflies on its label. I only mention all this in case anyone else happens across this question and it provide any help. Again, thank you, and let's see what next hurdle this gardening adventure brings! -Adam
