Ninebark 'Summer Wine' color
Comments (3)What is the soil like and what, if anything, did you do to amend it? My 'Summer Wine gets shade starting at 3-4 ish this time of year and I don't recall seeing that shade of green lately. Might have when I first planted it, but I don't recall. As bboy said, you have purple and that's a good thing. tj...See Moresummer wine ninebark question
Comments (2)I planted 2 Summer Wine last year. They were scrawny going into the Winter. This Spring one took off and is growing rapidly. The second is now taking off too but still behind the first one. Both have the deep color and both are blooming. Not a lot of blooms but about 4 or 5 on each plant. They are in a mixture of aged mushroom compost, horse manure, and local soil. Sun hits them at about 10 am and covers them all day....See MoreSummer wine ninebark or flowering almond shrub?
Comments (14)Hopefully, my experience with Summer Wine was rare, but I mention it because of your damp spot comment. I removed a Summer WIne this year after it got fungus really really bad. The prior year or two, it had a handful of oddball looking leaves, but this year (after a super wet spring), it turned incredibly white with fungus. And the soil and area is average normal soil, nothing extreme. I removed it to protect two other Summer Wine's on the property. I consider my experience rare and as I said I am only bringing it up because of your wet conditions. The risk is there for problems. I would stick with something that absolutely likes wet conditions to increase your chances of success. removing failing plants is no fun....See MoreSummer Wine Ninebark Problem
Comments (9)Hey, Radovey, just curious is your Ninebark Summer Wine in full sun? I have one Ninebark Summer Wine on the south side of my house in full blazing sun all day, and it does fantastic. I have another Ninebark Summer Wine literally 10 feet from the first one, but it is in morning sun and afternoon shade, and it gets dead branches in it every year. I don't worry too much about it, because the foliage looks good and it keeps growing numerous new branches every year. But my theory is that Ninebark Summer Wine shrubs need full sun to grow their best. Shade may be the cause of the die back. And yes, I cut the dead branches out....See MoreTim
