Comments (4)Comfrey and elecampane look similar when first sprouting in the spring but this is elecampane. This is virtually identical to my elecampane (Inula helenium) patch that is just coming in. Elecampane self-seeds, is a perennial, gets rather tall (the mature ones in my patch get about 5-6' tall), has a big, deep root, has pretty yellow flowers, and is at home in the back of any herb or perennial garden.
