i need a bath mat safe for re-glazed bath tub!!!
Comments (10)After slipping on a plastic mat with suction cups that didn't grip the tub, I bought non-slip shower treads on Amazon. They're made by a company called SlipX Solutions. Several posters on GW recommended them. They're fabulous: clear, not too visible, clean easily, and best of all provide excellent traction. I highly recommend them....See MoreDo I have to have a bath tub?
Comments (27)It doesn't matter how old the thread is when it is the first thing that pops up on a Google search when looking for the answer to this question.....And then, someone repeats this kind of nonsense on a new thread "A bathroom has a bath tub. It's legalese. It's not a "full bath" without a bath tub." I found this gem first thing, while looking up the reference to this exception where New York doesn't require a bathroom AT ALL. §RR306.1 Toilet facilities. Every dwelling unit shall be provided with a water closet, lavatory, and a bathtub or shower. Exception: Owner-occupied one-family dwellings subject to the approval of the code enforcement official. "NYS has several modification to allow construction of owner-occupied single family homes that have minimal technology, and may heat with wood or other renewable source of energy. This language allows, for instance, construction of Amish residences with little electricity (other than battery operated smoke & CO alarms) and with outhouses rather than bathrooms. Hunter camps may have a similar minimalist construction. NYS has a special condition with respect to the Amish population and to the prevalence of minimalist hunter cabins in the Adirondack Park." http://www.dos.ny.gov/dcea/pdf/AmendmentsDisposition2015.pdf...See Moreacrylic vs. porcelain steel bathtub vs. refinishing existing tub
Comments (9)I renovated the bathroom in my condo last year, which included replacing the tub. The enamel on the old tub (installed in the 1970s) was very scratched. The new one is a a Bootz porcelain on steel tub. It's only been about 15 months since the renovation was completed but I have no problems so far. The non-slip bottom is not difficult to keep clean. I use Barkeeper's Friend cleaner (easily available in stores and not expensive) per the manufacturer's instructions. I went with porcelain on steel because I live on the second floor of an apartment building, and since the old one was not cast iron I didn't know if the weight of a new cast iron tub would be a problem. I went with Bootz on the recommendation of my contractor, who has installed a bunch of them with no complaints. A neighbor refinished their tub a few years back and the fumes were terrible....See MoreRevisiting refinishing/reglazing a bath tub
Comments (10)We will probably reglaze our tub when we retile, but I would hesitate to reglaze a tub in a rental property unless the renters could be trusted to take to heart my very specific instructions on how to clean it. Several of my co-workers have reglazed tubs. After 8 years of good performance with Eva's first reglazing, she is now in year 5 of a second reglazing. Carol, however, reported failure of her tub surface after only 2 years. When we asked how she cleaned it, she listed Magic Eraser, scrubby sponge, Tilex, and whatever soap scum buster she had on hand. Either her reglazers did not leave cleaning instructions for the tub, or Carol did not read them. A reglazed surface is easily damaged by anything abrasive, and it can crack if something heavy or sharp is dropped on it (e.g., a hand-held shower head, a tile-scrubbing appliance). To optimize the longevity of the surface, the cleaning instructions I've seen recommend only a soft sponge and a gentle soap scum dissolver. Period. Not sure it's realistic to trust a renter to use only those items for cleaning the tub....See Morekats737
