OT: So you like coffee....?

Yes, it is true, I like my coffee. One might say, I LOVE my coffee....

I have had bad coffee. In the Navy, they took a #10 can and would "eyeball" the level of coffee they added. If you did not add cream or sugar, it could kill you..literally crawl out of your mouth, slap you upside your head, laugh with an evil laugh and then strangle you with your spoon, which is not an easy thing to do as the spoons were rather hefty as far as spoons go, and could be rather shorter than your neck line.

But, I digress... this is not about spoons or their uncanny ability to be the bearer of death. This is about life! Coffee is life! lol

The coffee here at where I work is horrible. On a scale of 1-10, I would rather eat the scale.

So, I have been on a "mission", so to speak, to come up with some coffee that will make me happy, you see.. I hate travel cups too. Yes, they are useful, but my lovely wife gathers them all to her and stock piles days of them in her car and office and I fill up half a dadgum dishwasher with the smelly things after I get on to her that we are out of them.... so I decided I would not bring them to the office.

Now, I am not going to BUY a cappuccino maker for the office as I also do not think sharing a 250+ dollar machine with people that barely wash their own hands at times (lol.. cynical day today.. lack of coffee.. heh)... so.. I found the following:

1 - Re-usable Keurig (sp?) filter

2 - A blend of coffee that touts as being "dark french roast" which should suffice to try..

3 - I purchased a milk warmer/frother that did not cost an arm and a leg

4 - I purchased 2 over-sized coffee cups because coffee is made to share.. :P

I am waiting for the milk frother to come in tomorrow, so Wednesday...the rest of the office may be able to come out from under their desks and rejoice at the beauty of sunlight without fear of me growling.

It shall be glorious.

I also got shaved cocoa to put on top, because I like mochas.. and chocolate syrup :P

Okay.. that is all I have.

Now, back to being bored :P

I loooove my coffee. I only read studies that say coffee is good for you and I don't care who sponsors or paid for the study. The last study I read said that it is beneficial for you to drink 5 cups of coffee a day (I don't remember why and don't really care) and you can drink up to 9 cups a day - benefits won't increase but there won't be any detrimental affects either.

Good luck, Russ!

My DH loves his coffee, too...he takes a 66 ounce jug when he leaves for work every morning! Then he makes another cup or two in the evening when he gets home from work.

I switched to work from home now I get good coffee and tea whenever I want.

Thanks guys. I'll probably be printing this thread out and passing it along. ;-D Well I think that for the next little while, every new client is going to entitle me to money in the bulb fund. I've been telling myself that I could gift some of the bulbs I'm ordering, but I may decide that its not reasonable to give them away before I've seen them bloom myself. he he In the meantime, I've cleaned up the far side of the house and set up shelving against the west wall so I have plenty of room to winter my seedlings. PG - I remember not going to muster the next morning because I could not stand still.. lol.. don't remember the rest ;) I just remember the old man that sat next to me. His hair was gray and thinning and he looked like the sun had seen more of his head than a hat for many years. His grin lacked teeth, but had the most friendly smile one could imagine. While many might have thought he laughed as if to make fun of this "American", he was genuinely thrilled to see someone from another country honestly enjoying a cup of coffee with him. Mama - I always drink sugar and cream in my coffee. Onboard ship, we did not have a measuring cup so we generally took a #10 can and sorta "guessed" at the amount of coffee we added. Growing up in mid-Michigan (where I happen to be at this very moment) several of our neighbors had big schoolbells they used to call the kids in for dinner. We all knew whose mom (who's? that I've never known) was ringing. Love them. I have a collection of brass bells. Most are Indian, with their gorgeous tones used for ankles, wrists, and big ones for wedding vehicles. I just like bells. I tell myself they're good burglar alarms on the doors. I have only two exterior, swinging doors, so they hang on them. I JUST this last week finished installing 14 casement windows on the front of the house. Casement windows give me places to hang bells the sliders didn't. When I replace the patio sliders with swinging French doors, I'll be able to justify more bells. My barn has a little coupla on top with a tiny man on a horse weathervane. I like him. He's painted electric car paint blue, by a man who repaired the roof and found the coupla was rotting. Makes me laugh. I love gumbo. Hint hint. How do you spell that tiny little house on the top of a house, underneath the weathervanes?

A plug in kettle and Chemex or the like is a nice alternative to those scorched-bottomed plastic hell heaps they call the office coffee machine.

I was loath to even walk into some of my work lunch rooms, lest I be tasked with the dreaded "Friday Fridge Fling" of the disgusting contents.

I bought a big Hydro Flask specifically for coffee, and it lasts me all morning when I have to go into the office. I couldn't deal with the Keurig coffee anymore...

On a side note, the Aeropress makes some of the best coffee I've ever had. A little messy and time-consuming to do at the office, though. But it's a great one-cup alternative, and I can travel with it.

Yes I was going to recommend an Aeropress - $25 on Amazon and the BEST coffee. Takes a few tries to get used to it but it's the way we have coffee at home. Would be delicious with your frothed milk!

I hope it's everything you want and more! For both you and your co-workers. I'll be listening Wednesday morning for the skies to open and the angels to sing and I'll think to myself, Ah, Russ got his coffee today! :)

Sorry for not posting more yesterday.. I got busy and then had too many plates spinning. So, today.. I stopped at 7-11 and got coffee. It was sorta my "I need coffee and I will not have to 'buy' it after today!.. lol

I am actually not grumpy if I do not get coffee, but I talk about cappuccinos so much at work people are getting to be like, "well? where's this cappuccino nectar of the gods you speak of all the time?" so.. time to make the coffee!

Yesterday, I decided to bring in chips and salsa to share. My wife can LIVE off chips and salsa..

2 cans of Rotel

2 Jalapenos

1 lg can of peeled tomatoes

1 clove of garlic

a lot of Cilantro

1 lg or 2 normal limes

1/2 a lg onion

salt to taste

mulch it all together in a blender... add a little Cumin...

She made 3 batches and we grabbed some chips and took some into both our places of work.

We ate nothing but chips and salsa all day.. lol

So, thanks for all the comments! Talk Coffee or salsa all ya like!

Whomever got me on a kick a while back about making my own hot sauce.. I am HOOKED!.. but I have to wait till the kitchen is done to really kick it into gear. I bought 48 of the hot sauce bottles and cannot wait to fill them in the new kitchen!

They are adding the plumbing to the slab formation this week.

I don't drink coffee. I like the smell and that my husband won a trip for 2 to Costa Rica from a coffee place. But to drink the vile brew itself--well, I guess I'm not alive. Making my own hot sauce, on the other hand, sounds interesting. Share?

Well, I made one bottle once with habaneros. I thought it would be SUPER hot, but it was not bad at all AND.. had a great flavor to it. The key was using cheese cloth to strain it out. Takes like 15 habaneros to make one bottle, so I am assuming a LOt of tabasco peppers to make tabasco-ish sauce. That is my next test... may make a little of each, but I got such a great price on the bottles, I ended up with 48 of them.

Milk frother came in... does not make very much at a time, but that is okay... I will just drink smaller cups :P only takes like a minute and a half to make the froth.. lol

Now to see if the noise will bother anyone.
