Thanks everyone for the nice comments. florida_wannabe, the place is called JW Corbett Wildlife Management area and is in Western Palm Beach County. The area is about 60k acres and has some real interesting stuff in it. There are Indian burial mounds and a large amount of wildlife. And of course, it has lots of gators and poisonous snakes. I don't mess with either, although some of the people we go with like to mess with the gators. The only rattle snakes I see out there are the pygmy's which of all places are in the small Sabals. Lots of water moccasins though. There are lots of wetlands all through out Florida so if you ask a local they can tell you were to go. Just make sure you go with someone that knows their way around or take a GPS. Its very easy to get lost and everything in the swamp starts looking the same after a while and because you are driving through water, there are no tracks to follow. The best place to go if you get far enough south is the Everglades national park, although I wouldn't take a jeep too far in there. The best way to get deep into the Everglades is with a swamp buggy or air boat. You'll for sure see lots of rattlers in there. Just curious, why do you want to catch them? That sounds terribly dangerous. Well the best thing about the end of Jeep season is that boating season starts. We are planning a trip the Exumas this year, provided gas does not go up too much more.

Okay, here's some pictures I found that look almost like what I have. The flower on my plant doesn't have the purple strips - it's more a solid pink. It's not a dark pink or red like the second picture either but you get the idea because the foliage & stalk with the flower is the same. It may have something to do with soil conditions, water, etc. crinum lily

Here are a few thoughts... A cool plant to use, unless the location is shady, would be Physocarpus opulifolius, Ninebark. There's a variety called 'Diablo' that is often trained to a standard (tree-form). It has striking bronzy green foliage and umbels of white blooms about now. Ultimate size maybe 8 ft. Another cultivar is called 'Dart's Golden', which sports bright chartreuse foliage. I've only seen this available in shrub form. Another good candidate is Swamp Dogwood, Cornus foemina. It also has umbels of creamy white blooms, which are followed by showy light blue berries on red stalks. This species gets 12-15 feet tall with a somewhat spreading crown. Other shrubby moisture loving dogwoods that are quite handsome in the landscape are the "twig" dogwoods, usually Cornus sericea. There's one called 'Cardinal' with bright red winter branches. A variety called 'Bud's Yellow' has equally eye-catching yellow gold twigs. Both are large shrubs with an open, rounded shape and ascending branches. A couple of evergreen options would be Yaupon, Ilex vomitoria, and Anise Tree, Illicium parviflorum. Both of these get maybe 15-20 feet at maturity. Marty

As you pointed out, this time of year it really doesn't matter. You could have poured it anywhere you'd liked. By the time spring arrived, it would have been incorporated into the soil and biome. You didn't really have to put the decomposed bits into the compost bin if you didn't want. They too would be enjoyed by the soil life and well processed by the time spring arrived. Quite honestly, the biggest danger with such things isn't to plants (although some plants - like annuals - are less able to cope with large editions of concentrated soluble products.) The greatest danger is to human health. Mosquito-borne diseases, as well as many water-borne bacteria that thrive in anaerobic conditions are quite real, and quite deadly. Of course today we have clinics and hospitals close to most people, and we take antibiotics for granted, but resistant forms of disease organisms are on the rise. I'm not saying this to scare you, but there are dangers to keeping standing water around a home. Please keep this in mind.
