Thank you for all your suggestions. I am not really looking to treat and keep the stump for decades. My neighbors were bringing down a tree and I really liked the look of the stump and wanted to put it next to the mailbox, I am okay if it rots in few years. My only concern is that one of the trees in our yard already has termites (a live tree which is blooming and I dont know why the termites were attacking a live tree.. thats a different topic though). We are about to start termite prevention plan around the house and I dont want to encourage more termite colonies by putting these stumps. So I was wondering if I can do something to avoid any new termite activity. If the best course is to not put them in the yard at all, I will be sad but okay with that too. Btw, we are in Zone 7, Maryland.

Google pear blister mites. That's what it is. You can try spraying with wettable sulfur following the label. If you can find lime sulfur, it is a more effective spray for PBM but the best time to spray is right before the trees leaf out. it won't kill the trees but it sure makes leaves look ugly.

Did you read the product label? It is primarily sesame oil, so yes, quite safe to eat - many Asian cuisines use sesame oil extensively. Also has some fish oil included and that might flavor the taste of the skin on developing fruit but should wash off. You do wash your fruit before eating.......??? It is important to understand the disease and its progression to know when and how to treat. Read up on the gymnosporangium rusts - there are several different ones and they affect only certain plants in the rose family but not roses themselves. Horticultural oils - and plant or animal derived oils are included in this grouping - are only moderately effective against these sorts of fungal organisms. You would do better using a registered fungicide at the appropriate time, usually from bud break until the spring weather warms sufficiently. And these are only protective or preventative measures. Once the disease has manifested in the tree, it is too late to do much about it this season. It won't kill the tree but may cause some leaf drop and possible. The fruit itself should be unaffected except for perhaps some skin spotting. The best control is to select and plant disease resistant varieties and to remove any nearby host plants - junipers (often commonly called cedars).
