I like wallabies too, but the 30 to 40 that range through my place juat have no garden sense. I've put water troughs well away from the garden to give them less incentive to come right in. When I put up an electric fence to keep feral pigs out I kept it low so the wallabies could get over easily, especially the younger ones. But now I wonder at that "thoughtfullness".

The thing about cast iron is that it holds heat so there might be different heat ratios from bottom to top if you're using a cast iron pan uncovered.. If you're not used to using cast iron, and/or not used to using convection, you might have a learning curve. I would have thought that convection would even out uncovered cast iron, but I might be wrong. There is absolutely no reason not to use cast iron for any kind of cooking--just be aware that you'll have to figure out the right heat settings and timing. I don't know what "needs direct heat" means--if that's supposed to be needs to be on the stove, that's hooey--but I agree that preheating it for baking might be necessary or the top will be done before the pan gets hot. Re pots sticking, I had a cast iron pot in the oven, which I moved to my induction to finish. I knew it had bubbled over a lot in the oven, but didn't realize how much juice had gotten on the bottom. It was good and stuck after half an hour at a slow boil. I was scared that tugging too hard would damage the glass, so I just scooped out all the food, once it was done, and let everything cool. When it was cold, I just tugged (carefully) and it released. The remaining glop dissolved with a wet paper towel, and the cooked on bits came off with a plant fiber scrubby, no worse for the wear.

One could do the search by finding a list of Rhododendrons that are native to the area LBJ Wildflower data bank has some search features that might help. I have made a cursory perusal because I am into major procrastination today and minding other people's business and not my own. ( I have been working too much and am having my first day off in awhile). R. canadense, R. lapponicum var lappanicum, R. periclymenoides, R. prinophyllum, R.viscosum are some that list Maine as home. I find that is one goes to the individual pages, One can click on the USA symbol and it will take you to a range map. Slide the slider up 2 notches and it will give you counties where it is at. Some of them are not that detailed and just have Maine as a light green. Oh Well. LBJ. is not a totally complete list but it is a great jumping off point. I had not completely ruled out the idea of it being a weed. I didn't want to assume and yank it immediately due to finding rose bushes and a couple other plants that were making a come back from the year before. There are three of these 'weedy ground orchids' that are ironically growing evenly with two or so foot spacing in between. Plus my neighbors sunflowers wiggled their way through the fence into our yard. Thought I'd do some investigating and ask around before I went ahead and pulled the suckers out. :) Thanks for the input everyone! much appreciated
