Stained wood trim/what paint color for inside of exterior door?
Comments (3)If you don't have stained wood doors, then you have painted doors? If so, then you can paint the inside of the front door the color of your other painted doors, or you can paint it the color of the walls. Either would be acceptable and cool....See MoreWhat would be the best wood for a stained vanity?
Comments (13)It's a legitimate question, bac. Cherry is the best choice as it takes dark stain very well and is a hardwood. The sapwood shouldn't be an issue because of the dark stain, but he should show you samples. You can also request all heartwood but it will add to the expense. Alder also takes dark stain well and is just as beautiful to my eye as stained cherry, but it is a softer wood. That may not be an issue in a bathroom as it could be in a kitchen. I wouldn't hesitate to use it but I'd protect it if I had a plumber or electrician in with their heavy tools. You can look at the Janka scale to compare wood hardness. Maple is a very hard wood so the stain doesn't penetrate as well and it can be blotchy with a dark stain. It doesn't have the richness of cherry imo. I don't think birch is usually stained dark. It's less commonly used than the other three woods. Here is my Kraftmaid cherry vanity in the caffee stain, one of their darkest. I would bet there's sapwood in it. The red comes through a little more in photos than it does in person....See MoreNew Built In Cabinet in a Victorian Living Room: Paint or Stain?
Comments (8)You can do either, but if you're already worried about it being dark maybe go for a painted option. If you paint it, I suggest painting it the same color as the wall. If you do the stain, have him do a sample before so you can compare it to the trim before committing. You may find it doesn't match well enough and you don't like it. But instead of shelves maybe move the TV off of the fireplace. It seems like it's small enough to fit int he nook. It's placement is really ruining the Victorian look more than anything else. If you're looking to brighten things up maybe go for a warm white rather than yellow, which can be tricky to work with....See MorePaint or stain wood paneled door and wood bar? Colors?
Comments (8)I would paint the doors. Any color. Without seeing the entire room, or see the colors you are working with throughout the home, I won't suggest a color. I would Beef up the trim moulding around the door(s) keep it white as the featured trim in the room. With the highlighting of the trim/wainscotting, I'd paint the walls a hint of color to show off the features. some fabric on the windows for texture? I would leave the bar the natural wood tone you have going. shelving in the alcove, nice... I would personally go with a black or Ebony shelf, but same... I don't know the look you're going for. Keep the woods in the same family, Is the floor carpet, or an area rug? I'd work on the flooring, Bars and carpet don't go....See MoreBuild Your House Yourself University (BYHYU)
