"Starting to see?" - Kitchen Trends for 2013
Comments (33)Several things come to mind: A lot of very bad "journalism" in the design field. Just fill the pages... This also applies to craft type magazines, the zillion Better Homes and Gardens publications being at the top of the list. I always get the feeling that whoever writes the articles has no interest whatsoever in that particular endeavor. My biggest regret is for the change at Quilter's Newsletter which has moved from interesting stuff in the world of quilting to blah, blah, blah. Yes, I did let my subscription lapse a couple of years ago. beekeeperswife: I tell you that here in Central PA the closest thing to painted kitchen cabinets that is just catching on is the glazed cabinet look. I'm the Marilyn Munster of Central PA, just for the record. The look of horror on every builder's face as well as every fabricator's face when I mentioned white cabinets and marble was priceless. Should have taken pictures of all of their faces.... Ha! A friend was born with some weird heart valve issue that evidently made interesting noises. She delighted in not warning new doctors before they had a listen. She took great amusement in their reactions, the classic being the frozen face followed by the polite, neutral face, and then very polite language suggesting that, well, this might require some follow-up. [That heart really didn't cause her any issues until it quit working one day when she was 70. She was fixing dinner at the time in her custom kitchen. Not a bad way to go.] One of the really great things about GW is that so many practical things get examined from so many perspectives: corner cabinet solutions, placement of cabinet hardware, function of different sink options, thorough dissection of layout issues, GC and fabricator problems. And then there's fashion/fad/trend side of things. This is the icing on the cake corner of the world and lots of fun. There are kitchens I love here and ones that I don't love, but I appreciate them all and am glad everyone shares - much better than pay-by-the-word keyword dependent non-info....See MoreI'm starting a new, disturbing trend
Comments (8)I don't see it as such a big line to cross. I think if you are doing new work, and know you won't be able to tolerate anything less than perfection, it is easy to stop immediately when you see any quality issue less than acceptable and address it before it goes very far. It's a lot easier to tear out a few inches of quilting than a whole quilt. The binding issue, well I can see how sometimes a whole binding is on and you notice you don't just love it. Then it's a personal issue you just gotta live with or fix. LOL. I notice I do stop more often when I am making a quilt if I am not completely satisfied and change courses or make corrections. I don't succumb to being tempted to just finish it up if I'm not pretty sure I will be satisfied....See MoreElectrolux 70 series....where's Larsi
Comments (25)Not sure the Sears people have a clue! There is nothing in the service literature for WM8000 or this Kenmore Elite remake that specifies target temperatures. Big big secret I guess. The most obvious question is what cycle are you using with steam? The biggest factor is some cycles are much longer and adding steam option gives extra time for the heater to rise the water temperature. It's also very dependent on load size and initial fill temperature. But then again maybe your machine works like it's suppose to and mine doesn't. But honestly I have not be able to distinguish Steam Option vs Sanitary other than the higher water level with the Sanitary. I did notice regardless of cycle, adding the Steam Option seems to run some sort of over ride program and the water level is always lower. I think this is by default otherwise the small onboard heater would never be able to heat it. As an experiment I am going to run a load on Normal/Casual, Acela Wash enabled by default and Steam. It's target time is 1:30. I post back and let you know what temp was actually achieved....See MoreLarsi
Comments (10)@mamapinky0.. I think you'll be able to get much further than 60 loads out of a bag. For my Bosch... only a tablespoon was needed, and everything would come out sparkling. Even with the Rinse Aid dispenser turned off... which is a hard fete, for a lot of detergent's now. I think you'll like it. It has a sorta... lemony, chemical-ish scent to it. But... it rinses away so well, and doesn't seem to be absorbed by plastics. Don't get rid of that Cascade Gel, if you end up loving the Somat. You'll find it'll come in handy for any dishwasher load, with lots of plastic stuff....See Morelarsi_gw
