Loretta, out of curiosity I googled Captain Cook's Hat & your plant looks nothing like any of the images that came up. Yours seems to have a furry appearance. You might like to google flannel plant to see what comes up.

seems to have a few funny common names depending on what side of the hemisphere you are on... here it may be called Captain Cook's Hat" and overseas "Napoleon's hat" :-)

Thanks. I googled kalanchoe beharensis and the images shown look identical to the plant we have so it must be that. Also found a listing on eBay for a kalanchoe beharensis and they referred to it as captain cook's hat. Not an Australian native (as we were told) after all.
