Bonsai Fukien Tea Tree Indoors? What do you think?
Comments (0)Hi all, i have been thinking about ordering a fukien tea tree. I would keep it indoors year-round, will have access to growlights and high humidity. And it will also get some direct sunlight from an window. I am in zones 9 -10. Northern California. Are my conditions adequate for 1?...See Morewhat do you think of these teas?
Comments (11)Jeff, here's a thought. Since you're trying to convert folks to OGRs, one factor may be early growth habit. Some teas have a really awkward look for the first few years. The Cochets come to mind. Two and a half years later MC is still a very open bush, big-boned and gawky, but maybe this spring's pruning (though mild) will help that whereas others are finer caned and more graceful. This angular gawkiness may be a little off-putting to some since they are not fanatics like us, willing to tolerate some unpleasantness for the sake of future greatness. (Maybe you could post a sign, "Judge not, lest you be judged. Mt 7:1".) Of the teas RP has Rosette Delizy, Mlle F Kruger (though she has veggie centers) and Mme Antoine Mari had decent early shapes. I have a baby Alex Hill Gray and Mme Lombard, and though they look like they're going to shape up nicely, it might be too early to judge. Early and mature growth habit could be factors that folks can comment on. Comments (6)Well, being a Southern belle AND in England, maybe you should tell us : ) My southern belle status only lasted until I was 7....so I may be a little rusty. But normally, we visit on the current tea thread, until the next Tuesday. Then we post a new one, so everyone can start again. Next week, I'm hoping to have tea in our fairy garden. It's full-size, not miniature...but it's been a little overrun with weeds. That's my next project (after the kitchen garden) but it's still a charming space to have tea. If it's nice weather for most of us, maybe we can have and outdoor tea. What does everyone think?...See MoreTemporarily off the grid but OK- xpost small, manufactured, kitchen
Comments (3)Oh, Debbie_B, I do hope you are better soon, AND you get internet, too! Is that hand drawn floor plan your kitchen? It's awkward, for sure. Actual dimensions would help, though. It just occurred to me that what I did in my old house in my dining nook might be something you could do someplace in your home. I installed floor to ceiling kitchen upper cabinets on one entire wall. They are only a foot deep, so fit where you don't have the space to put base cabinets, but give you crazy amounts of useful storage space. I did solid doors on the bottom 36 inch height, glass doors on the middle and top layers, both 30 inch height....See More- 8 years ago
