Golden Celebration growing against a wall - advice
Comments (52)astonishingly, there are roses grown all over Europe in the tiniest holes and as long as the roots are actually getting to ground soil and not contained within a complete container, the minuscule surface opening won't matter at all - heck, there are immense street trees grown with the entire trunk encased by pavement. As for oxygen, there will be plenty of it in the interstices between the soil grains, even heavy clay, as long as drainage remains good - the big issue will be that compacted earth but 3 feet down is a fair depth. For some plants, the shading by pavers is an absolute bonus since the roots are cool and as long as they manage a decent run underground, there is no need to worry - although you will have to water patiently and slowly, dripping a can over the course of a few minutes to allow water to penetrate deeply enough and not simply run off. Once the rose is established (after a full growing season, ideally, but certainly for at least 3 months), irrigation will not be a major issue either. All Austin roses take a few years (at least 3) to make fatter stronger canes - for several years, they will nod and flop - pruning will certainly help to thicken the woody stems but as with most things, time is the answer....See MoreCelebration!
Comments (13)Ok, those close to me call me Barbie and I live fairly near to Cleveland, so here is the one a local friend sent to me. Greater Cleveland Area Barbies for Christmas Mattel recently announced the release of Limited-Edition Barbie Dolls for the Greater Cleveland market: Westlake Barbie: This princess Barbie is sold only at Crocker Park. She comes with an assortment of Coach Handbags, a Lexus SUV, a longhaired foreign dog named Honey and a "cookie cutter" $2,000,000.00 house. Available with or without tummy tuck and face-lift. Workaholic Ken sold only in conjunction with "augmented" version. Strongsville Barbie: A Westlake Barbie Wannabe; shops at South Park Mall, pretends to love Sushi at local Jap eateries, thinks Moby Dick is a male porn star, usually found at Thursday garage sales looking for Ken. Drives low end Jag-u-ars and Mercedes 230C, complete with Bush bumper sticker. Lakewood Barbie/Ken: This versatile doll can be easily converted from Barbie to Ken by simply adding or subtracting the multiple "snap--on" parts, with AC/DC adapters. Brunswick Barbie: This pale model comes dressed in her own Wrangler jeans two sizes too small, a NASCAR shirt and tweety bird tattoo on her shoulder. She has a six-pack of Bud light and a Hank Williams, Jr. CD set. She shops at Home Depot and can spit over 5 feet and kick mullet-haired Ken's butt when she is drunk. Purchase her pickup truck separately and get a Confederate flag bumper sticker absolutely free. Collinwood Barbie: This recently paroled Barbie comes with a 9mm Glock handgun, a Ray Lewis knife, a Pontiac with dark tinted windows and a crack pipe. This model is only available after dark and must be paid for in cash (preferably small, untraceable bills). Unless you are a cop, then we don't know what you are talking about. Hunting Valley Barbie: This yuppie Barbie comes with your choice of BMW convertible or Hummer H2. Included are her own Starbucks cup, credit card and "The Country Club" membership. Also available for this set are Shallow Ken and Private School Skipper. You won't be able to afford any of them. Beachwood Barbie: This collagen injected, rhinoplastic Jewish American Princess (JAP) Barbie wears a leopard print outfit and drinks cosmopolitans while shopping with friends at Beachwood Mall and Legacy Village. Plays Mah Jong on Friday evenings. Faces Sacks or Bloomingdales while engaging in sex...annually. Percocet prescription available. Elyria Barbie: This tobacco-chewing, brassy-haired Barbie has a pair of her own high-heeled sandals with one broken heel from the time she chased beer-gutted Ken out of another Barbie's house. Her ensemble includes low-rise acid washed jeans, fake fingernails, and a see through halter-top. Also available with a mobile home. University Circle Barbie: This doll is made of actual tofu. She has long straight brown hair, archless feet, hairy armpits, no makeup and Birkenstocks with white socks. She prefers that you call her "Willow". She does not want or need a Ken doll, but if you purchase two University Circle Barbies and the optional Saab wagon, you get a rainbow flag and Stop the War bumper sticker free. Parma Barbie: This modern day homemaker Barbie is available with Ford Windstar Minivan and matching gym outfit. She gets lost easily and has no full time occupation or secondary education. Traffic jamming cell phone sold separately. And the sad part.........living within a 30 mile radious of these areas, I have actually seen all these Barbies, lol. And here is a copy of an e mail sent to me. What's just 2.5 inches long and can satisfyany woman Every time? " scroll down to see!!!! > ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? HEY DIDDLE, DIDDLE the cat took a piddle, All over the bedside clock. The little dog laughed to see such fun. Then died of electric shock. There was a little girl who had a little curl Right in the middle of her forehead. When she was good, she was very, very good. But when she was bad........ She got a fur coat, jewels, a waterfront condo, and a sports car. It's always awesome and a little disturbing to see nature at work. Now, thanks to a photo from Nature Magazine, Inc., we're able to see it in full force. One reason alligators can become so overwhelming in population in certain areas is because they have no natural predators. They are eating machines, and with a tough outer coating and great swimming ability, they generally get to fight on their own turf where they nearly always win. In this case a wild dog pack caught the gator on land, unable to make it back to his soggy home field. The dogs, working together as a team, managed to take the gator down. Note how the alpha dog, the leader, is holding onto the gator's snout to keep him from biting, while the others hold him down to keep him from rolling and thrashing. I won't lie to you, the picture is disturbing, and this page is set up in such a way that you'll have to scroll down to see it, in case there are any squeamish among you who don't want a peek. Please, check this photo out before you clear your children or any minor to look at it: And these are only the cleanest e mails my friends send me, I do get some doozies, lol....See MoreBirthday celebrations, and your favorite memory!
Comments (19)We didn't have big birthdays either. But one stands out in my mind and still makes me tear up. I must have been 8 that year and my birthday gift was a new pair of school shoes. My mother picked out the most godawful blood red oxfords with argyle plaid laces. Man, those were ugly shoes. I wanted saddle oxfords like my older sisters had. My father's birthday was the day before mine so I never had my own cake. Every year mother made an angel food cake with white icing and that was the cake for both of us. I did get to pick the menu and it was always fried chicken. Sometimes I asked for fried chicken AND chicken and noodles. Now that meal would still make me forget I never had my own cake. Anyway, the year of the shoes, we were watching TV--a new novelty in our home. Back then we watched TV with all the lights off. Don't know if that was the norm, but that's what we did. I kept seeing those ugly shoes in the TV light and I just started crying. Very softly so nobody'd see me. But my dad did. He sat me on his lap and started telling me how neat me new shoes were. Well, I gave it my best try of acting happy about them. Then he got up, went out in the kitchen and was gone for a while. I was beginning to feel better about the shoes when he came in the living room with a bag from the drug store. He'd gone out, walked the 5 blocks downtown and to the only store open and bought me two new sets of paper dolls and a few other little things. I felt so guilty for being a baby about the shoes and somehow I just knew that was probably his lunch money for the week. It's not a happy memory, but that's how much daddy loved us. And that part is a happy memory....See MoreAug FOTESS - CELEBRATE ABUNDANCE
Comments (193)Bingo! Sorry I've been AWOL. School started Aug. 19, our Moms In Prayer group started up again (we pray for the schools/students/teachers). We had the Eclipse (Nebraska was one of the best places to view it and lots of hubbub). I attended a training on Native American Children/ICWA Indian Children Welfare Act. Very enlightening. The tribes are a nation within a nation. They have their own courts, social workers, etc. If the tribe chooses to return a child to the household with a parent who is neglectful/abusive the American courts have to let it happen. On the other hand, the Native Americans have a strong culture and often use non-traditional ways to cure drug addiction such as music therapy and animal therapy. My husband had a birthday so we had a party and now he's trying to put together his own business. That's been a life-long dream. Trouble is...he's an entrepreneur and I'm the anchor who keeps dousing him with questions and pieces of reality. I can see where he wants to go, but he can't see the 200 steps he has to take to get there. In his mind he's already there (wherever he sees himself in his video playback in his head). I may need valium. My double click cosmos bloomed! That's been my good news to keep me going!!! Ii got my daughter's video complete from her trip to Japan and got it uploaded to Facebook.
