Scionwood of Mango Pickering

Hi,

i am living in germany having some mediterran and tropical plants (e.g. Atemoya, citrus, Jaboticaba, Fejoa, Kumquats). My new project will be a mango plant.

I am focusing on the mango pickering. I would like to graft them on a gomera rootstock. This rootstick is typically used here in southern Europe as it es relativ cold hardy and suitable for wet winters.

I cannout found any source where I can get mango pickering scions officially.

Do you know any source or is anybody able to give away scions of pickering mango? Fairchild mango is my second choice.

Handling fees and transport will be no problem.

You may want to check out the link for UK gardening, that's the only one here that's not US based, maybe someone there can recommend a supplier or has some to trade. :) http://www.uk.gardenweb.com/forums/gardening-in-the-uk

Hello Friends, MangoDoc - Thanks for the Compliments, they are always nice to hear. Pugluvr - Thanks, I am doing eveything I can in hopes of having a few when it comes time to harvest. There are probably about 25 right now. It is protected from the #1 enemy - The Wind. It is in the Greenhouse and seems to like it in there. Mangoperro - I retract my previous statement about none of your Pickerings making it. It's nice to see you've got a few. Congrats! As for the shape of some of them, I can only chop it up to something funny happening during pollination, or lack thereof? It is strange as some of them are completely normal and others are really odd shaped. Any guesses out there? Thanks again, Jacob

Thanks DM. I look forward to pictures of your mango blooms too. I'm glad to hear that your Champoo longon is spiking. My 4-ft tall Biew Kiew bought last year isn't doing good at all. It bore a few fruit last season and now the whole plant is infected with mealy bugs. Lots of white stuff to clean up. I think the colder weather makes the plant more susceptible to the infection. I always don't have much luck with longans. Anyway, I do hope your lychees will bring nice surprises to you soon. Isn't it nice to look forward to the warmer growing season already?

To me it looks like its going to bloom. what is your watering and fertilizing schedule by the way. Mangoes need to be stressed from cold or other factors to flower. be careful to keep the room temp to a suitable range. what is the temp in by the way? i have a couple of mango trees indoors but have shown no signs of flowering so far.

I'm not sure whether I correctly understand the question, but I'll take a shot at answering it. If you're asking whether you can use your two seedling plants as rootstocks, and graft other varieties of mango onto them, then the answer is yes. If you're asking whether you can use pruned branches from your seedlings as scions to graft onto other rootstocks, then I'd say there wouldn't be much point, other than to practice your grafting technique, since there's no way of knowing whether your seedling mangoes will ever even produce fruit, or if they do, whether it will be of good quality.
