Replacing sink on existing laminate countertop possible?

I'd love to remodel my kitchen, but don't have the funds to do so right now. The problem is, I really need a new sink and faucet. My countertops are white laminate, and in good shape. The sink is white, and it is stained and scratched. The seal around the faucet is failing and when water splashes, it drips under my sink.

The sink has a metal edge around it. Can it be removed without damaging the counters? Would love to hear from anyone with any experience with this issue. Thanks!
