Terra I don't know the answer but you will get better response if you make the title of your posts reflect its content so people know to respond to your inquiry.

Can it be done, sure, but there is no guarantee that the old sink will come out without damaging
the top, you have no way of knowing until you pull it out.

The metal band is whats holding the sink in place. You'll need to measure the sink opening, and find one with a cut out measurement as big or bigger than what you have now.

Then you carefully pull the old sink, cut the hole bigger if necessary, and install the new sink.

I did it in a bathroom, carefully went under the rim. Dropped in the same size sink. I would think in a kitchen, Taylor's advice of getting a slightly bigger sink would help. Give it a shot!

I have installed two of these sinks recently on replacement jobs. The nice things for you are the large flange which may cover damage during removal of the old sink and the fact that this sink is undermountable. If you ever change your tops, you will not have to buy another sink. The surface flange is very flat and nice too.

Thanks for the insight. If I do this, I'll be using a contractor. I have to call him and ask what he thinks. Just wanted to get a concensus here first. I'm planning on replacing with SS. Hopefully if there is damage the lip of the new sink will cover it.

It is sooooo easy.

Measure the sink you have - side to side and back to front. That is the size you can get (and yes these things are standard sizes --- with laminate, they probably did a basic 33" sink)

(1) Go under the sink and turn off the water - should have shut off valves there and if not turn off the water at the main shutoff in the basement - you should know where the shutoffs are as it is critical to shut off the water if a pipe ever lets go

(2) Take pipe wrench or very large pilers and detach the faucet pipes (water lines, sprayer line, faucet) and the drain pipe

(3) Unscrew the metal clips holding the sink to the counter (run your fingers around the sink edges underneath - you will find them)

(5) Pull the faucet out from on top

(6) Give the sink a shove rom below to see how loose it is -if water is dripping down, the adhesive or caulk seal is long gone or never existed

(7) Take a 5 in 1 painters tool (wood handle is best) and tap it with a hammer under the edges on top

(8) Lift sink out

(9) clean where the sink edges where

(10) bring in new sink and drop it in hole

(11) DO 1 -6 in reverse

Takes about 15-20 minutes to get it out and another 15-20 minutes to put it back

It takes the most time to get the stuff that lives under the sink out of the sink cabinet

Terra - I'd be hiring a plumber/contractor to do the job as well. And I did.

Ann Scott=Arnold - This isn't a 15-20 minute job to those of us who aren't DIY'ers.

Quite a few years ago I had my plumber do this for me before I redid my whole kitchen. He did do what Ann above said but it definitely took longer than 15- 20 minutes. He did crack the laminate in front of the sink which I was able to fix to not look so bad. In his defense though it looked like the people that build the condo used some glue in that area along with silicone that really stuck to the sink. The section in front of sink you need to be real careful with. If your not a diyselfer I would definately have your contractor/plumber do it.
