I recently replanted my male and female kiwi (fuzzy types). They were growing beneath a strong arbor - which was also occupied by 3 other occupants - 1 wine grape and 2 eating types, that took a liking to their habitat, and I decided the kiwi would probably resent the intrusion - eventually. Anyway, since my son built a 2nd arbor on the east side of the house, it seemed like a great new home for the fuzzies. So I moved them there. They are both about 5 feet tall now, and I pruned back quite hard this winter. I planted both of them in the same hole, and it is my thought to let them intertwine until they reach the top of the arbor. Hopefully, the intimate relationship will prove to be fruitful. If they survive the move, time will tell. Just my 2 c's. Bejay

The green Zespri brand kiwis are small like the first kiwis I saw in the grocery stores many years ago. I bought some very large green kiwis a few months ago, and they almost looked like two fruits fused together. The cashier told me she used to enjoy kiwis, but said she didn't like them anymore. The flavor of the large fruit was bland, and I remembered why I stopped buying them. When I saw the Zespri brand green kiwi, I decided to see if they were as good as the golden kiwis. They were not, but still alot better than the other green kiwis. So that is what had me suspecting there was more than one clone used other than Hayward. Is the ZespriGold a single clone grown only by Zespri growers? It will be a while before my gold seeds grow into fruiting plants, so if anyone knows where mature plant material can be found for sale or trade, I'd love to get a a pair. Hi Sabji - I have them. The variety was called 'Annas' when I bought it but I think that is just a shortened version of 'Ananasnaya'. My male was purchased along with some 'Issai' females many years ago and I believe he was also labeled 'Issai' even though Issai doesn't require a male (but they produce more fruit with pollination). He came with me to the new house and the girls got left behind at the old house (too big to dig). I also have a 'Ken's Red' which might be a different species but mine doesn't produce much fruit so I wouldn't propagate it. I prune throughout the summer. They are rampant growers.

I have some in the ground. Very vigorous, if you can keep the rabbits from shearing them off when they are little. They need a large strong trellis. I have about a dozen different varieties trying to determine what does best in my area. The nursery shipped them in August. I've not gotten a berry yet, my males and females didn't bloom in sync this year. There are other posts in the Vine forum, the people over there may be more help.
