You can pick the largest spinach leaves and let the remaining leaves in place to grow large. It won't be long now before the spinach bolts (go to seed), the the first sign of this is when the leaves become less rounded and more thin and pointed. Sounds like your brocolli is down to it's side shoots which are pickable but you need to watch them daily as they will quicky flower in this heat. If the smallish heads are hard leave them be until they become slightly spongy to the touch. One more day or two and they flower.

I live just outside Moore Haven towards Clewiston. Spec fishing is ok. Bass fishing has been great. Although I haven't fished since I sold my boat 10 yrs ago after an accident at work. I bought an HD in 03 and never got back in to fishing. I have been reading about those Everglades tomatoes and would like to try some of those some time. All the tomatoes that I use to grow come from a commercial grower and I obtained them as plants. I am try starting from seed in a flat. I hope I did not screw up by using potting soil. I now read that I should have used a soiless seed starter.

I love to take a large pot and plant with three herbs. Lemona verbena is usually one of my choices and looks great with variegated lemon thyme. Another pot is dedictated to a prostrate rosemary and one or two other herbs but sometimes a little johnny jump up for color. I had terrible luck with cucumbers in pots last year. I think all the rain washed nutrients out of the soil. On a garden tour I saw someone else's potted cucumber looking as sickly as mine but one growing nearby in a raised bed was healthy. At our old house I planted a cherry tomato on the east side of the house next to the porch stairs. It was a great location for casual snacking. Don't overlook strategic placement of pots to enjoy quick nibbles. We grew sugar snap peas last year. I used to plant carrots along the base of the peas so when the peas were done the carrots took over. At the other house I grew tomatoes in large pots on the south side of the house in the sunniest location. Beans should do fine with less light. I had some last year grow in the shade of winter squash vines because I planted too closely. Keep your eyes open for local growers or garden centers that sell tomatoes in individual pots. I lucked out last year buying heirloom tomatoes and peppers from a gardener who grows extra to sell. I had to place an order for pickup on a specific day. You might find people at farmers markets and flea markets selling their extra plants or see a sign posted in front of someone's house. Ask other gardeners in your area if they have recommendations. I think more and more nurseries are making individual plants available for people who want to grow a variety of tomatoes and 6 of a kind are just too many. Have fun!

There's nothing wrong with a 12" tall tomato plant. They simply bloom when the age of the plant plus the weather are in the correct range, whether the plant is 8" tall or 8' tall. It probably has as much to do with the age of the plant as the weather. For example, your typical 3-week-old tomato plant likely is not going to bloom no matter what the weather is doing, but your typical 8 to 12 week old plant might if the weather conditions were right. Just plant the poor thing in the ground if it isn't already there, and leave it alone. I never remove flowers because flowers = fruit. Here in Oklahoma, the temperatures that get "too hot" for tomato fruit set to occur can arrive as early as May some years (as they did at my house last year) and the window of opportunity for fruit set to occur can be very narrow. Most years, those specific temps don't arrive until at least June (probably earlier in SW OK), but they can arrive in May. If you are nipping off flowers on plants now and the temps get too hot as of mid-May, you may regret every flower you nipped off. It is a personal choice, but I hate removing prospective fruit. In a consistently cooler climate, you routinely do it to let the plant put its energy into getting bigger before it sets fruit. In our climate, it can backfire if the weather gets too hot too soon.
