Quick help ?s from noob on repotting a newly gifted baby jade.
Comments (8)If the roots are healthy, I would not cut them off. Any soft spots on trunk? (it looks good in the photo). If my plant, I would try to tease out rest of the soil from roots (using tepid water helps to soften the peat, and help yourself with a wooden skewer) and inspect them - if any very damaged and/or soft-mushy-slimy, I would cut those off. I would dry off all the water (the leaves look too wet to me - did you soak whole plant?) and pot it up (I use mix of grit+perlite+turface). Give it bright and warm (not drafty) spot and wait patiently for roots to grow in....See MoreWrinkled jade leaves
Comments (26)Thank you! I added a sloping floor leading to the drainage hole (which has an insect screen covering it) to all planters and repotted, adding even more grit. I will keep them in the shade for a while and test with a skewer before watering. Hopefully this helps. Otherwise, I will revisit making a new mix. I am still a little unsure about the screening advice I received. When I first screened my Floor Dry through 1/8", I lost nearly 70%. I was told I could go back and screen again through the 1/16" I gained a ton back but maybe it is now too small and thus falls to the bottom, retaining too much water... All plants have been showing new growth but if I continue to notice wrinkled leaves, I will reassess the mix. I did screen perlite through the 1/8" and of course only saved 30% of the bag. I will look for orchid bark to since most of my reptibark ended up being too big and I've yet to find a solution for that... Thanks again! Comments (30)I use a specialty succulent mix distributed by a local grower and I may water once a month in winter....sometimes even less than that, depending on the plant. I grow three different kinds of jades and none have ever exhibited shriveling or an obvious need for water. What is important to take from the above responses is to never water on any sort of schedule but only when the plant needs it. And they don't need much in winter :-))...See MoreAdvice - Jade Repot
Comments (44)Hi! Thank you for your response, the reason I gave water is because I was watching new leaves getting bigger on stems, and i thought once there was new growth, to water. I hope I didn’t do it too soon and make things worse. My mix, I did 60% Perlite and 40% BJ mix. It seemed perfect and drains really well. I’ll watch closely for anything and won’t water for quite a while now....See MoreSkyler Spettel
