Welcome back to the wonderful world of gardening! :) (I'm in a happy mood because all of my crocus are blooming!) Without going into too much detail, rotating is used mainly for two reasons: to help prevent the build-up of disease and to help avoid depletion of the soil of certain substances. Any basic gardening (vegetable) book will usually go into detail. But essentailly it boils down to moving plants so that you don't grow the same types of plant in a spot year after year. I started listing what shouldn't go where, but really it is easier if you look in a book. Or online. But corn next to lettuce isn't a problem, whereas peppers where your tomatoes were last year might be. Cheers!

Thanks Karl . That sounds like a good plan. Right now, I am waiting to see my first blooms. This one is bursting with energy, so pruning a few canes will be alright. There is some new growth from the middle. Last summer was not a summer (with all the rain). I never really got to enjoy seeing all the blooms that this one had. I remember it had a lot of them. It is in a row with Champlain and Heritage on either side 4'. I should have spaced them 6' away from each other. Heritage , Champlain , Ebb Tide, And Cape Diamond all made it through the winter great. Sam

So glad you posted these pics. I am growing Verbascum Milkshke this year (got the seeds in a trade) and I have great germination. It's good to know it's height. I am also growing 3 types of Rose campion - fuschia, white, and angel's blush so they should should be beautiful together. I am told they are biennials and will bloom the second year, but the fuschia and white are such great re-seeders you will probably never be without them. Nice photos.

Fruits might be fewer or smaller but you never know.. If it were me, I'd try to keep it going and try to produce pure seeds from that plant. I live in zone 10a and I'd never had ANY annual squash survive winter. I grew cabocha last year and it was the first to run out of steam and die before winter even came. You might have something special... I'd just plant more cabocha just in case that plant fails to produce. There ARE perennial squash and Ive heard that some grown as annuals can survive as perennials in warmer climates. I know I've seen sponge gourds survive year around in warmer climates.
