FINALLY Cleaning Icky Shower Door Track
Comments (2)I used Easy-Off BAM! & a Clorox stiff brush from Target and it worked like a miracle. The Easy-Off said not to use on metal but I figured that by the time the metal was reached, I'd already have most of the build-up off. I am SO HAPPY! Thank you, barnmom, for the ideas....See MoreCurbless shower, frameless shower sliding door
Comments (8)Thanks or the ideas. Davidtay - we are not using a trench drain. We are using standard drain by ebbe. Dianne47- I don't mind the top bar.. Just don't want to deal with the bottom track cleaning. Pharaoh - I looked at the hydro slide link and it looks like there is a track in the bottom.. Or maybe I am not understanding how it is installed....See MoreBillV and others -- potential tile flange problem?
Comments (5)Could a thin (or not thin) wall be framed out in front of the integral apron and tiled? Then I could use a tub with an integral apron and integral tile flange. The more I ponder this the more I don't trust the field installed flange that Kohler provided. The Kohler tech support guy just said add like an inch of silicone to seal it. Wonder if a fake front could be framed to tile...could be the solution. Waiting patiently to be shot down. :)...See MoreShower door track mystery
Comments (6)What roarah wrote. Usually drain or sewer flies. Shower drains are common sites for habitation, sink drains less so. They tend to lay eggs in partially clogged pipes, they like the held moisture. Flies usually come out at night, the larvae can be seen in and around the plumbing fixture in question. They might have come out of the drain and found a nice moist area in the track. Or if the track is moist and gunked up, it's possible eggs could have been laid there. Easy way to diagnose is cover the shower drain with tape, sticky side down. Run lengths of tape across the drain with a small air gap between the lengths of tape. It might take a few days, but you may eventually see a fly stuck to the tape. Remediation is to snake the line to remove any buildup that is holding moisture. Flush well. Then I recommend a scour with salt/baking soda/vinegar, let it bubble and sit, or use an enzyme-based drain cleaner. Flush well. The goal is to scour the sides of the drain pipe clean to remove the moist gunk that they use for an egg laying site. Tape the drain again and see if any more flies show....See More- 8 years ago
