Need help with this weird corner in my kitchen.. PICS inside.

It would bug me visually cause the window doesn't make sense with the ceiling beams and the cabinets are crammed up against it. So I would do the big bucks if you got 'em and take it out. Replace it with a smaller, but slightly taller window centered between the two beams. If you have a view, replace with a really tall window. I would try to resist the temptation to fill it up with stuff. Maybe one of those iron cookware stands? Maybe a small table or chest. To me, the trash can and stools help your kitchen look junque-ie. On the other hand, I don't get what's going on beside the ref with the dimmer on the wall ?in a corner?...See MoreWindows, Windows, Windows - Please Post Photos
Comments (22)I LOVE everyone's windows and kitchens, and I want to come to Peyton's party also! These double casements were just installed yesterday. We ordered three, but had to settle for two to allow enough space for other things. Those cabinets are going. The only wall with anything above counter will be the fridge wall. My main inspirations were erikanh, jenswrens and these steel windows from Things That Inspire. We didn't come close to any of these, but we like ours anyway. They fit the scale and scope of our house and renovation. boxerpups, great pix as always! I had some of the same ones in my inspiration file. pps7, your elevation looks a little limited in space for a towel rack. The door of the sink cabinet looks like the most likely, unless there is some clever disguise for the wall to the left of the windows. Is that a LS in the right corner? Is there a possibility there? I am planning to put a bar in one of the pullouts near the sink. igloochic, try this -- point your lens at the dark part just above the window, push the shutter half way, then move your camera down to center the window in the lens and take the picture. If that is overexposed, try right on the edge of the window. Also try the same things with flash, if you haven't....See MoreHow to treat weird windows throughout house?
Comments (23)I think the bedroom looks great--it's furnished, decorated, and de-cluttered. Windows just blend in the background. I think when you get the moving stuff put away and other rooms more furnished, the windows won't seem so weird. For the living room, do you need more seating? What do you plan for the wall color? The windows seem stark because the wall is so dark and empty, especially since the TV and stand blend right in. I'd start with think what you need furniture-wise for the function of the room. In the breakfast area, I'd clear the clutter off the window sill, de-clutter and maybe relocate the bookshelf, then hang some art around and below the window. Hallway, I think might be fine with nothing around the window. Or bookshelf or console table much wider than what's there. For the windows themselves, I'd probably either do a light roller or cellular shade. I'm in sunny California and have cellular shades, which are good for blocking harsh light in day, but also look nice at night so that the windows don't look like black holes. In PNW, you may not need the light filtering, so could consider a sheer option to let in more sun. I actually just put in a window like this in my bathroom, so that I get the light without the privacy concerns. Definitely see that it makes decorating more challenging in other spaces, but I think you'll be glad to have the light....See MoreUneven window frame and weird cabinet extension thingy
Comments (9)Hi Mark, Well I thought that the solution was going to be paint the window trim, baseboards and everything dark but that won't work unless I paint the baseboards throughout the rest of the room the same as the walls right? Then I thought about painting the window trim but keeping the baseboards white. I have a small open concept kitchen and living room with high ceilings and the rest of the room is SW Mindful Gray. Here is a picture of what I started with, white on white along with an inspirational picture of what I was going for. Hopefully that will help!...See Moresdello
