Well If you have ever seen TRES fledge theres no way a baby Blue will make it. I would almost opt to candle the eggs and if there is little to nothing there get rid of them. Is it possable to tell the difference between babies at hatching time? I would want to put them in the Blues nest but that could cause problems too. Lets think babies not eggs here. No way a blue can survive with a TRES Mom, overloading a Blue or having babies hatch days before her clutch could result in dead babies. Yikes this is one for Bet, Malinda or Cornell. Im still thinkin destroy the eggs so no babies ever suffer.

Congrats! I assume that you have done your homework since you have a spooker up. Have you been to www.sialis.org? Maybe Mom had a hard time laying that egg? I would leave it and see what hapens.

Hi, sometimes a female determines that her eggs are not viable she will remove them from the nest. Sometimes the "bad" eggs just get buried in the nest material. This sounds to me like maybe another female took over the box and is building a new nest. In any case, even if it is the original female, she has decided that the eggs are not going to hatch. I would probably wait and see if she completes a nest on top of the old one, and then maybe remove the old one from underneath since it's unlikely that they are being incubated if they are buried. Do you know how long it's been since the eggs have been buried?

Hi Judy- So glad you have 4 eggs now! Sure hope they become chicks! Did that egg end up being cracked? My understanding is that if the eggs are super fragile, the female may not be consuming enough Calcium. Don't know if you feed mealworms, but they're high in protein, but low in Calcium. During nesting season, I've been sprinkling my mealworms with calcium carbonate powder. Should help the mom to lay stronger eggs & the nestlings to grow stronger bones & wings to fly. As you have so much experience, you've probably not run into fragile eggs before- don't think they crack very much from what I've heard (unless low calcium, handling, or foul play is involved). Hopefully, your eggs are ok though. I thought one of mine may have been cracked, but it was just a piece of human hair running across it. Thanks for info on nesting cam.
