Testing a coil with DMM
Comments (26)sfhellwig: No Problem Dude ! I can see that you are apparently getting the run around by your local Repair Facilities and are feeling the frustration. Since you are the Originator of this Thread no foul in expanding the Coil Trouble Shooting Criteria lol . I hate when Threads are Hijacked . If you follow what Baymee has advised for Safety (Bail & Torquing Specs) You should not damage the Bonded Brake Liner or Damage the Flywheel by over-tightening . If you do not have a Torque wrench use a normal 3/4" drive ratchet with 3/4" till snug unless you are a Gorilla no foul . If you feel a Small brass hammer is to evasive utilize a Fibre (Plastic) face mallet . Follow my or Tomplums advice and you will have the Flywheel of asap without incident ! I have removed two lawnmower and 3 Chainsaw Flywheels in the last month and only used 3 finger puller on the one chainsaw which was 40 yrs old it req'd the penetrating oil overnight soak since it was galled on pretty bad . Patience and gentle tapping & prying allowed removal without any thread damage . Hey don't fret $30-$60 I have seen some Coil / ignition modules go for $130+ . Sad that your Repair Agent is such a deadbeat , I have picked up used dealer units for a third of original price which outlasted the Original Mowers lol . Anyhow all the Best keep us posted and Welcome to the Site ....See MoreCraftsman 21.5 HP Intek loss of power
Comments (105)I think the bracket is there. Is it rod shaped? I can see two screws. I was thinking if I unbolted the motor to the frame I could slide it over to the hole in the deck. If I could do that, would I be able to keep what's in there in place, when installing the seal? Or would it be a hassle and a oily mess? I've drained the oil from the drain tube, but I never seem to get much out it....See MoreCraftsman Mower deck (clutch) Won't engage
Comments (68)Hi All, Thanks for all the tips; you actually helped me solve my issue (the clutch did not engage). Two years ago, I decided to buy a “Portable Car Battery Charger” instead of keep buying new battery every winter, which apparently was the root-cause. I used the “Portable Car Battery Charger” to jump-start the tractor then disconnected it and start plowing but this year the clutch did not engage. Apparently, the clutch need some power from the battery and since my battery is dead it simple didn’t engage. So, as a "temporary solution" I ducted tape the “Portable Car Battery Charger” to the tractor hood and I keep it connected after the initial “jump-start” and the clutch (and me) are happy. Next week, I will get a new battery for the tractor and a “Battery Buddy” to keep the battery alive during the summers. Hopefully, this post will save others some time & $$...See MoreCraftsman Garden Tractor 917.251492 wiring nightmare
Comments (42)So guess what? I actually mowed the other day! It was only for about 15 minutes because my right rear tire won't hold air for any longer than that. I noticed that, in spite of having been doused with belt dressing, the drive belt still slips and it's worse after it gets warm. So I've ordered a new drive belt and a tube for the tire. Gosh, after that I think all that would remain is to rig some sort of cup holder. ;-) Actually I will have to address the steering. It turns more sharply to the left than to the right. But that seems like a comparatively minor issue. The front wheel bearings will also need attention at some point. Also, the Motion Control Lever seems to be out of adjustment. Don't know if the lever itself is bent or if it's simply an adjustment that needs to be done. But it still mostly works....See Morerexlex
