Comments (21)Found a place called Lakeview Garden Center today. They have everything! Pinus strobus 'Angel Falls' with Pinus strobus 'Niagara Falls' to the left. Everything was 30% off. I had to get something. I just had to. I pondered on these two for an hour or so and left $107 poorer with a giant 'Angel Falls' stuffed into my Scion XB shoe box car. The 'Niagara Falls' was fantastic but more expensive. The wife is going to kill me I was supposed to be buying new shoes. Who needs shoes when you can have an 'Angel Falls' instead. =) The one I got was the only 'Angel Falls' that still had a leader going somewhat up. All the rest had them cut off. Yay, my first Pinus strobus and biggest conifer I have ever bought. It will need some big time root surgery this fall. A big Pinus strobus 'Niagara Falls' - Fantastic fuzzy monster. The smaller ones were more wide and bushy with at least two leaders spreading in opposite directions. This big one was more upright and looked like it was staked for height....See MorePinus strobus 'Niagara Falls'
Comments (3)I'm curious about it too, wondering which is the superior cultivar? There is a bit more info on 'Niagara Falls' at the bottom of the linked page below. 10 to 12 feet in 10 years... Here is a link that might be useful: Pinus strobus 'Niagara Falls'...See MorePlease check my list
Comments (22)did you ever give me your phone number .... i wanna talk some sense into you .... what the heck are you thinking...?? they are NOT perennials that need to be grouped ... crikey.. did you win the lotto??? and who are you going to sell them too??? .. didnt i show you my nursery.. crimminey.. i can even give them away .... do i recall you have 30 or 40 acres ... maybe groupings would really be something different ... ???? and blimey ... you cant even gift any to me ... because i have everything that you are buying multiples of .. EXCEPT the ones you are getting singles.. whats that all about ... i mean really. wasnt your visit here.. the inspiration for all this madness ???? [and ignore those who are telling you A.kor. aurea is carp .... its sublime in my yard ... and i am closer to you than any of them] .... BTW.. i dont think anyone mentioned that a 'pendula' larix.. will be either/or khampheri or decidua ... they are all mixed up in the trade .... i think over the years i have bought 3.. and got 2 of one.. and one of the other .... ALL KIDDING ASIDE ... i have never seen it done this way .. and if its in the budget.. all the power to you ... nothing NEW was ever discovered.. by peeps who limit themselves to what others have done .... CARPE CONIFERUM ... ken ps: i cant believe i worked crikey, crimminey and blimey.. all into one post.. you should feel honored.. lol.. oh.. and carp .......See Moreweeping abies
Comments (9)Thanks guys. I'm in Illinois, made the 8 hour round trip drive to RFWP last Labor Day. I wish I could hop over to see Rich when I needed a new conifer. RFWP is where the 'Niagara Falls' came from that I'm replacing here. I found the one super draining spot in my yard and we have a hot/dry spring and it caught me slipping, nothing but crispy snapping branches. Of course the Sciadopitys and 'Chief Joseph' I planted October 30th are doing great this spring. Local nursery is expanding their conifers also, for the larger stuff I'll probably special order from Iseli through them. Anyhow, glad I stumbled onto Porterhowse, dunno why I haven't used them before. Been to their website more than a few times. Going to get something in from Don next week, still negotiating cultivars. I did read your big pix post Dax, not sure how Abies procera ÂDelbar Cascade passed me by. That might end up being the one. Thanks, Dave...See Moresevernside
