I saw something like this recently, and in fact posted a pic of it on a thread here--something about a closet under the stairs. Anyway, someone had built a big box that exactly fit into the closet space, just leaving room underneath for some big casters. So they could pull the whole box straight out to access the space behind, without disturbing anything inside the "closet." Theirs was more about being able to access stuff stored at the lower levels, where the angle of the stairs created space deep in the closet that would otherwise be unreachable. However, you have that step at the bottom that comes all the way out to the doorjamb, so you don't really have a place for a unit to roll in. Otherwise, I'd go with the idea to stashing the vacuum there, and out-of-season clothes in big plastic tubs that are easy to pull out. and maybe back-of-the-door storage for things that you need to put your hands on quickly in that area.

Esmer, ok, now I see that the corner is squared off rather than following the ceiling shape. Not sure why the builder did that. Since you don't need a lot of furniture in there, you could build the corner out and move the intercom system over or remove it. To get the same affect, find a large corner cabinet to put in the corner, in the same dark shade of the table. It could be such a sweet jewel box of a room. If it were in a formal home I could see murals on the wall and clouds on the ceiling and lovely drapes on the windows, but that is a huge design commitment. Let's start with the basics. You need to choose your colors, or neutrals if you want to go monochromatic. Window coverings. Choose between roman shades or hang drapes on a thin metal continuous rod across the three windows, then a roman of the same fabric on the door. I really like your table but I think you could do better on the chairs. If you go with a pattern on the drapes, you could choose a color from them for fabric chairs, or cushion on wooden chairs. For the odd corner; 1, corner cabinet 2. two comfortable upholstered chairs and a small round table between for a little area to have a cuppa. 3. Buffet and mirror/art/deco, etc. Your table is oval, but a round rug would probably work. You can tape out various sizes and shapes to see what looks best. Try turning your table 90 degrees so it sits in front of the bay of the window, but centered under the chandelier. See if you like that look. For the walls. 1. If you do a corner cabinet, consider a wall hung shelving piece to display plates or knick knacks on the wall to the left of the door. You will need some smaller items for visual interest. 2. Buffet, art or mirror 3. Two chairs and table. small art gallery wall on both walls. And maybe just one large piece to left of the door. I would choose furniture pieces and placement first, then window coverings, solid or pattern. Then rug, chairs, deco items, wall decor and chandelier, and paint. I hope others chime in. I'm sure they will have some fun creative ideas that I haven't thought of. Whatever you do, make it a process so that everything you choose will create the style, mood, that you envision. Someone with photoshop skills would be really helpful at this point. Good luck with your beautiful unique room! eta. If you get a corner cabinet, you could remove the the top doors for display, then just hang one large piece of art, or a gallery wall on the wall to the left of the door.

I think continuing with the gallery wall would be fantastic, but the pieces look a little wobbly at the moment. I think the problem might be that they are not straight. It might also be that you are trying to put vertical and horizontal pieces together in the same size frame as the horizontal pieces. I think you need some larger pieces in the mix. I use glue dots on the corners to keep the frames straight. The smaller the frame, the more noticeable it will be if they are not straight. If you keep what you currently have, I would rearrange so that the vertical pieces are not all in the same row. @idaclaire has a fabulous gallery wall in her bathroom!

OK. Here is Rev. 2. Still some measurement issues but mainly fireplace position. I think the TV over the fireplace is best because the angle and space to right of fireplace is not very large without overlapping Bay Area. I removed the soiled piece of the sectional to make everything fit nicely. (Convenient). I guessed on size. But these are fairly standard so I think I am close. I used Beverly’s idea for a console and art above it on wall to left of office doorway. I don’t know why the wall with the fireplace pops out but doesn’t go to office door. Might be worth building that out so the TV can be placed over fireplace nicely. But if not, we can design wall to have possibly a mantel that runs across and around end. Just depends on styling desired.
