wisteria questions

Wisteria virgin here, so be patient. Here are my questions:

1) Do both chinese and japanese wisteria flowers have a scent? I am finding conflicting reports on the internet.

2) Is there an easy way to distinguish chinese wisteria and japanese wisteria when not in flower?

3) Is getting one with a grafted base really that critical? I brought home some cuttings I lobbed off a massive wild wisteria in South Carolina this spring and they seem to be doing very well and I think they will all survive. Since they were growing wild everywhere down there (propagated by nature no doubt as they were on the side of the highway amidst other wild unintended bramble) they must not have a grafted root base and were flowering like crazy nonetheless. Can I assume mine would as well, or is the whole grafted base thing really that important?

4) It says everywhere that full sun is best for the health of the plant. Can I assume that full sun is also best to promote flowering as well?

Thank you
