What happened to the old GP days?
Comments (100)Hi old friends, Been a long time and just lurk now and then. Lots of changes, home, state, gardens and friends, but always think of my GP friends. I had to look up my old password, and realized that my AARP, Medicare passwords are easier to find than GP! LOL Especially this time of the year I visit LindaC in my mind, Suzi, Andi, Liz and Robert. Ruth Anns, newly painted bathroom and the pergola was a story that still makes me smile. I recently shared the Dogs in Elk, with friends that they read as they went elk hunting and they laughed till they cried. Tammy was a trip and would never attend our swaps in N. CA although she was invited. I miss my old CA friends and hope that Maggie and others drop in to say hello. As you may remember, we moved after 40 years in CA to our home state of WA. Exchanged the Salvias and Cannas for Ferns and Rhodies. We love our new life and being with the hundreds of relatives has been wonderful. At the time of my son's illness your prayers were so important and he is now the founder and director of his own foundation. Middle son is now here with us in the PNW and husband is retired. I brought plants with me especially those from trades on GP and from the Get-together. That was one of the most fun events I have ever attended and Robert knocking on the motel room and saying 'Candy Gram' was one of the funniest moments of all. Linda, I use chicken wings for my soup and everyone loves it. What a lot of fun we used to have. Dicken, he is in my heart and I still cry when I reread the emails from him. It was a sweet time and life is far more busy now that we are with all our families. Have a wonderful spring, we are still in freezing nights here in Seattle but the ferns and Rhodies are happy. Here is the link to my son's website for those who remember Ron. Here is a link that might be useful: Ophoenix.org...See MoreCelebration Of Old Roses Images
Comments (8)Will Mel's Heritage be out for sale anytime soon? couldn't compete with that $100 bid!! *** Did it go for $100.?? WOW. No, I couldn't have competed with that, either. It'll only be for sale at "events," I think but if I hear different, I'll let everyone know. It's REALLY beautiful -- and seeing it on Monday confirmed again how much I liked it. Wish you could have been there for the Celebration tho. It was a very good one, and I loved it, but MAN I was tired at the end. The high Silent Auction bid on that day was for a very nice "Old Town Novato," though one of my friends was happy to get a good "Benny Lopez." As good as "Benny Lopez" is here near the coast, I think I need a second one of that, one of these days soon. Jeri...See MoreCentral Ohio Plant Swap/Pot Luck -Saturday, May 21, 2011
Comments (123)Hi folks... I had a blast today at the swap. It was great fun to see so many long time friends and make some new gardening friends too. We had over 100 people and over 2000 plants for sharing. Awesome! At our first swap in 2001 there were 28 people... it's was so fun to see some of those same people at the swap today. Thanks to everyone for coming with such a kind and sharing heart - that's what it is all about. Everyone seemed to go home with lots of new plants. :-) Murray and I came home with some tomatoes, sedums, lillies, coneflowers and many more. Thanks so much. Of course, thanks to folks for bringing a wonderful array of tastey potluck food! I say this every year... gardeners sure can cook and bake. Thanks to folks that donated door prizes. We always get such a neat array of goodies to choose from One last thanks to everyone who came with a kind generosity of spirit. Good gardening to you all! Comments (144)Carolyn, my favorite is Tara Road followed by The Glass Lake, though Circle of Friends seems to be the favorite of many a Binchy fan. Cindy, now that I re-read the ending so I'd be accurate in my confusion... I no longer am. I thought the "afterward" was an artifice and actually part of the novel. Upon more deliberate inspection, I see the ending of the novel is marked as such and Maupin's father calling him and asking him what Maupin's done to him in this book, etc, truly is an afterward. It's amazing to think that Maupin, along with other sophisticated-sounding folks, was caught up in a similar situation; at least according to web chatter, 20/20 ran a voiceprint on the real life "boy" and his "mom" with the results indicating the voices were the same person. As for the heartbreak, it seemed to pave the path for Noone to be so open to being duped. Same for Noone's musings about growing up being different and feeling isolated--he could identify with this boy and, I believe, really did see himself as a father figure/mentor....See MoreRosefolly
