For those who love a lot of magazines...

...but can't afford to buy (or subscribe to) all of them...

The thread about Reader's Digest magazine prompted me to post about this. Many of you might already be aware of it and taking advantage, but for those of you who don't know what it is... There is an app called Texture (originally known as Next Issue) that, for $15 per month, allows you unlimited access to read over 170 different magazines. You even have access to back issues. I think it started primarily as an app for Apple devices (I could be wrong about that), but it is now available for iPad, iPad Mini, iPhone, and iPod Touch (all of which must be running iOS 7 or newer); tablets and smartphones running Android 4 or newer; and computers and tables running Windows 8 or Windows RT. It's now available for Kindle Fire tablets, too! You can share the app on up to five devices, so if you sometimes are on your pc and sometimes using an iPad, you still will have access.

You can sign up for a free one-month trial, or you can get a three-month trial subscription for $15.

I've subscribed since early last year, and I really enjoy it. The $15 per month I spend on the subscription is less than I was paying out for a bunch of individual magazines, and I don't have a pile of magazines that I need to carry out to the recycle bin!

Anyway, I thought that some of you might be interested.

In south-western Ontario, Canada, my municipal library system offers about 60 magazines on a service called "Zinio" that's free with my library card.

I have used Texture and loved it, but found that all the magazines I read are at my library. I read them on the Nook app on my Windows tablet.

When we moved here to our country home (converted barn) it was a couple of weeks before Christmas. That first Christmas morning my husband and I woke up to snow, beautiful fluffy sparkly snow. We have 11 pine trees surrounding the barn. Of course the snow covered the pine branches. I looked out the front window , and there sitting on one of the pine branches was a bright red Cardinal. It looked like a Christmas card, all white with some green and red. I wish I would have had a camera ready at the time. It was just so perfect. It gave us that warm fuzzy Christmas feeling. As we sat and drank a cup of Hot Cocoa and a Christmas cookie. I hope we have fresh snow for Christmas this year. patti

Oh My Goodness, DeeJaus....guess where I've been since my last post on this side of the Deco Board; At the link you provided and loving it and going back for more! Beautiful gardens and so much inspiration! From the couple of the links I clicked on the side, I noticed there was nothing overdone, nothing gawdy....just really natural, soothing gardens. In fact, there is one there that shows what the older couple did to the front of their home and I'm saving that to show hubby when he gets home from work. We want to eliminate as much lawn as we can (Southern Calif. here and we will get 'dinged' with a fine if we use too much water or ticketed if we water on non-watering days/hours). Thank you so much for sharing that site....I'm now going back to look/drool at it some more.

GLAD-SOONERMAGIC--PDXGAL-- I LOVE ALL OF YOUR KITCHENS...thanks for sharing your pictures...certainly have given me some great ideas...ANNAB6 that was very creative..how did you do that .... MAROQW that was an awesome site...christopher peacock ...totally inspiring...now im getting more confused...i kept saying i wanted a cottage/english feel...now im looking at those amazing pictures from somethings gotta give hampton house and also the pictures from a new post titled "beautiful white kitchen with whole house to match" that was posted here on march 14th. when i look at the kitchen i love it....to me the pictures show old world meeting modern....check them out...im really leaning towards the subway but of course finding the right shade....but have not ruled out a square tile.....my cabinets seem to be more ornate raised panel then some of the simpler lines.....will that still go ok with the subway???? sorry if im rambling....anyway ,...thanks for your comments...i will figure this out....ps i paid the tile installer today...pss i have two boards of matching wainscoating in my garage that i did not use...is it to rustic for my cabinets? who me confused lol yes.. as you can see im all over the place.... :) have a great night and again thank you for your pictures ,,,thoughts....and ideas..... lisa :)

Color me crazy, but I love renovating really old houses. If I were still physically able, I'd buy another place where I could take a crowbar to crumbling lath and plaster. There's something quite nice about knowing exactly what's inside your walls when your done. That's expecially true when you've corrected a major structural problem.

I use zinio on my android devices. I have a lot of subscriptions but I forget to go look at them. I get lots of free online magazines through freebizmagazine I think that's the name.

I echo the Zinio recommendation. It's available from most decent sized libraries (including the Sac library) and most library subscriptions include many, many dozen and some many hundred titles. They have apps for Android, the i-phone and pad and Kindle HDX. And accessible of course from PCs.
