Switch plate color for green subway tile backsplash?

Should I go with off white or silver? Cabinets are off white. Hadn't anticipated this dilemma and want outlets as hidden as possible.

There are many manufacturers of ceramic switch plates, you could browse around and see if there is something that integrates with your tile better.

Is your cabinet hardware silver?

I thought this was a good idea to put outlets near the counter. I'm thinking of moving mine when I tile my backsplash. In my kitchen, they'd be totally hidden behind stuff on the counter.

I just got some wood switch plates at Home Depot and picked up some similar colors of the marble at the craft store for about .79 @ and dappled it on the wood to resemble the marble. You can experiment on a piece of cardboard to get the effect you like. I just left mine as is without a clear coat, but once it is dried you could easily brush on a clear. I just wouldn't do too glossy, so it will match the marble better.

I have white-white cabinets, white marble and white subway backsplash. I did put a a blue and pewter liner through the splash though. I like a white or light splash -- and I chose glossy tile to reflect the light even though I was adding under-cabinet lighting. If you want to go with either of the two tiles you have in the picture, I like the darker one better. The lighter one looks dingy -- just off on my monitor. The darker one seems more in keeping with the colors in the marble. At least as I am seeing them. I can see it being nice too, especially with good under-counter lighting (I hate baking in a cave, in case you haven't noticed a trend here). Which way to go? Hard to say without the layout and seeing the amount of splash, how it all ties in together and with other spaces -- and without knowing what kind of feel you want. I think that last one is especially important. Look at your inspiration photos and compare them to the space you have and the feel you want -- the look you love. Look for more photos, especially with a color in the splash (I know I've seen a few with various blues or greens in white kitchens). I did the colored pencils and copies of my drawings for several different choices -- they helped me double check my choices, but they were especially important to DH since he couldn't create mental pictures of how things would look together. That really can be helpful.

I'd vote box extenders, as for shimming or whatever, if the tiles are cut just like the drywall would be, the ears of the switches and outlets should rest on the tile, bringing them out to the right level. I just re-installed outlets and switches in a bathroom when I tiled it, and noticed that the cover plate screws hit the tiles before the plates were properly tightened down. This could crack the tiles if they got tightened too much, so you may want to notch the tiles where the cover plate screws are going to be. In the end, I used a dremel with a rotary tile file, which did the trick.

I'm not sure what size subway tile you wanted but at Susan Jablon you can custom blend your colors in a 1x3 mini subway. I made one using an exisiting blend and eliminating the 3rd (tan) color using the link where you can adjust color ratios. Here is a link that might be useful: example

I cannot find any ceramic switch plates in this green color and the tile manufacturer does not make them. I'm left with an off white option or some sort of metal finish. All of the hardware will be an antique nickel. Wondering which one will look better and if anyone who has colored tile back splash can comment or show me photos of what their switch plates look like. The electrical outlets are already in so I cannot move them under the cabinets or anything. I have selected spots that I think can be hidden by items such as a coffee maker. ect. but still some will be seen. I hate to see a nice backsplash ruined by outlets.

Lutron makes wall plates in many colors. Also outlets and switches. Maybe the "Greenbrier"? I used these Claro plates which have no visible screws, which is a nice touch.

We have a similar tile (Fireclay UltraCream with Black Patine) and ended up with silver cover plates and black switches. We like it (but then, in general, outlets don't offend me :-) )

Legrand Adorn makes lots of screw less different color wallplates. They also have clear ones that you can use an insert with - wallpaper, paint or a photocopy of your tile in the clear wall plates.

Gorgeous stone! Your backsplash tile is also lovely. I love green, tho. :)

What color receptacles are you using? If you want "invisible", both the plates and receptacles should match the tile. You can always take inexpensive plates and spray paint them. I did that to my old stainless plates to match my antique white b.s. Sprayed the receptacles as well.
