Switch plate color for green subway tile backsplash?

Should I go with off white or silver? Cabinets are off white. Hadn't anticipated this dilemma and want outlets as hidden as possible.

There are many manufacturers of ceramic switch plates, you could browse around and see if there is something that integrates with your tile better.

I thought this was a good idea to put outlets near the counter. I'm thinking of moving mine when I tile my backsplash. In my kitchen, they'd be totally hidden behind stuff on the counter.

nik, Welcome! A couple of thoughts: if you love absolute black but are worried about maintenance, look at a leathered finish. It is much more forgiving than the polished finish to smudges, etc. There might be a reason you aren't seeing a lot of pictures with your color cabs and white tile - you might be right and it might be too bright. Try to get some sample tiles and bring them home and tape them to the wall to get an idea. You might find the answer really fast! Check the Finished Kitchen blog and Backsplash slideshow (link to FKB below, backsplash slideshow at FKB) for more pics to see if anyone else has done it - there are lots of successful rule breakers here! Maybe consider an off-white subway. Again checking a sample in your kitchen with your cabs and counter will help. If you both love the glass mosaic you might be able to incorporate it in a small area - like behind the backsplash or as an accent with 2 or 3 rows of mosaic between rows of subway - there are some examples in the finished backsplashes. secondhalf, my kitchen is small and G-shaped, so it's difficult to get a very panoramic shot. My cabinets are BM Cloud White and subways are Sonoma creamy crackle. Side by side the tiles are darker, but in reality they conspire to look the same. I had wanted a darker, more gold/yellow tile for a bit of contrast, but the GW posters talked me out of it. I still wonder if a different tile would have been better, but if you're after calm and non-diva, this color combination is for you. Crackle is more subtle in large amounts. In fact, I have to get pretty close to even see the crackles, however, I think it gives the tile a little more life to it.

I have white-white cabinets, white marble and white subway backsplash. I did put a a blue and pewter liner through the splash though. I like a white or light splash -- and I chose glossy tile to reflect the light even though I was adding under-cabinet lighting. If you want to go with either of the two tiles you have in the picture, I like the darker one better. The lighter one looks dingy -- just off on my monitor. The darker one seems more in keeping with the colors in the marble. At least as I am seeing them. I can see it being nice too, especially with good under-counter lighting (I hate baking in a cave, in case you haven't noticed a trend here). Which way to go? Hard to say without the layout and seeing the amount of splash, how it all ties in together and with other spaces -- and without knowing what kind of feel you want. I think that last one is especially important. Look at your inspiration photos and compare them to the space you have and the feel you want -- the look you love. Look for more photos, especially with a color in the splash (I know I've seen a few with various blues or greens in white kitchens). I did the colored pencils and copies of my drawings for several different choices -- they helped me double check my choices, but they were especially important to DH since he couldn't create mental pictures of how things would look together. olivertwist - thank you-it is my favorite thing in our kitchen. It was easy to install also (it comes on a mesh). I think they have 4 variations, so check the link to see if there is another that you like better. They are all quite different. Be sure you get samples in person. You can also 'enhance' it with a certain kind of sealer that deepens it but we chose not to. I wouldn't say a lot of green. When I look at it I see quite a bit of variation but if I had to pick one color that stood out I think the slate gray does because its darker than the others. There are red (some moving into a pink if you can believe that) tones, clay or an olive green color, orange/rust. I have attached a couple of close ups I just took. The first one is with flash and the under cabinet lights on. The next is with the uc lights off but the kitchen light is on. If you want one in natural light I can catch one tomorrow since it's already pitch dark out.

I cannot find any ceramic switch plates in this green color and the tile manufacturer does not make them. I'm left with an off white option or some sort of metal finish. All of the hardware will be an antique nickel. Wondering which one will look better and if anyone who has colored tile back splash can comment or show me photos of what their switch plates look like. The electrical outlets are already in so I cannot move them under the cabinets or anything. I have selected spots that I think can be hidden by items such as a coffee maker. ect. but still some will be seen. I hate to see a nice backsplash ruined by outlets.

Lutron makes wall plates in many colors. Also outlets and switches. Maybe the "Greenbrier"? I used these Claro plates which have no visible screws, which is a nice touch.

We have a similar tile (Fireclay UltraCream with Black Patine) and ended up with silver cover plates and black switches. We like it (but then, in general, outlets don't offend me :-) )

Legrand Adorn makes lots of screw less different color wallplates. They also have clear ones that you can use an insert with - wallpaper, paint or a photocopy of your tile in the clear wall plates.

Gorgeous stone! Your backsplash tile is also lovely. I love green, tho. :)

What color receptacles are you using? If you want "invisible", both the plates and receptacles should match the tile. You can always take inexpensive plates and spray paint them. I did that to my old stainless plates to match my antique white b.s. Sprayed the receptacles as well.
